86 4x4 extended cab 5 sp swap info

My '86 4x4 auto drives and shifts fine when I drive like an old man. However, when my foot gets heavy the tranny hunts around. It will shift up early, then with lack of power, shift back down, then rev out and back to the taller gear.

I'm interested in collecting parts, or a donor truck for a 5sp swap that I always see mentioned.

Is there a detailed write up on on this swap somewhere?

What year trucks would I need to look at to stay compatible?

what drive shaft options would I have if the donor truck is not extended cab like my '86?

Your solution might actually be pretty easy. Do a search for something called a "kick down cable." I'm pretty sure Toyota used it on your truck. It might be out of adjustment. Best place to search will be over in the FJ60 section. It's a common problem on FJ62's.
