Hey guys, looking for some help with an 86 Toyota 22re pickup efi. Over the last two days it started running rough and lost power. I pulled the plugs to check compression (all good) but the number two plug is covered with oil (all others golden brown). Pulled the number two plug wire while running and it has no effect on idle ( obviously a problem).

Done 600 miles ago
timing chain, tensioner, guides, injectors with o rings and seals, plugs, wires

Done since running rough problem started
tps sensor, o2 sensor

Why would this number 2 cylinder not be firing

Does it have spark to that plug? If it does, it could be your distributor or your timing. If not, it could be a clogged injector. I had a similar problem with my son's '86 and after doing the timing chain, and checking the timing it turned out I had rust in the tank and it clogged an injector. Tank swap, new injectors (again) and it's been running well since.

Time to start pulling apart the engine harness, check all the splices on the injector wiring. Common failure.

www.mrinjector.com great service send your injectors out nand get them cleaned. my 4runner did same thing same symptoms everything.
u take out your injectors mail them to him he useualy cleans and ships them back out the day he gets them. its like 20 bucks for overnight shiping on the return. its worth it. even if it aint your problem i bet it runs way better but i bet its your problem

I would ohm out #2 injector before pulling the entire harness apart to make sure the impedence is correct. If other cylindars were not working as well, then the wiring might be suspect. 1 out of the 3 not working could be as simple as a bad injector.

If the plug is covered in oil, you could possibly have a ring issue on the piston. Other things to consider are valve seals and the ol' head gasket. Not trying to be a bummer, just thinking of the worst case scenario.

Ok,
1. injector harness splices look good
2. Injector posts ohm out at 4.0 (same as others)
3. Injector plug post to post is 3.5 ohms

am I missing something?

I have good compression in that cylinder, wouldn't that rule out head gasket and rings?

Did you read the part where he just replaced all the injectors 600 miles ago?

yeah actualy i did miss that part. But doesnt mean debris and gunk didnt come free. in his fuel line system tank fuel rail. and clog one of his new injectors.

Time to start pulling apart the engine harness, check all the splices on the injector wiring. Common failure.

I will x2 this. Injectors 1&2 are wire together, and 3&4 are wired together. The splice fails. Plus, the splice for the four grounds for each injector also fails. I was surprised when I did mine. They were so bad I'm surprised the engine ran.

there in the section of harness . that runs between the top and bottom parts of the intake manifold. To find my splices i could unwrap part the harness to find the first split but to find the second split in the harness i had to remove the upper intake to get to it

Pulled the fuel filter after getting the intake off. The inlet side of my NEW fuel filter is full of rust colored fuel and debris. Do you think it got past my filter and clogged my NEW INJECTOR?

Yes. That is EXACTLY what happened to mine. The new fuel filter was dirty again and the new injector got clogged. My parts truck had a good gas tank so it got swapped in. One more filter and a new injector and it's been great ever since.

send it to that link i posted above mr injector . beats buying a new one.

Hey guys, I replaced the injector, changed the fuel filter and added another inline filter until I get this clogged injector thing solved. Truck ran GREAT for about five miles but after, it was idiling like crap. Checked things that were new (tps, fuel filter o2 sensor) when I unplug the o2 sensor it idled better, plug it back in and within about thirty seconds its back to crap. Lots of clear moisture coming from exhaust.

Hey man I am having the exact same problem with my 92 !!! It is driving me crazy!! I have plenty of spark. Adjusted my valves, cleaned my injectors, checked my wiring to my injectors , replaced o2 sensor, and the pcv valve. I feel like it's something simple but I can't figure out what it is! If you figure something out please let me know.
