1985 4x4 single cab with a 22R. Wipers stopped working. Checked the 15 amp fuse and it was burnt. Replaced the fuse, burned again. I disconnected the wiper motor from the linkage and replaced the fuse and the motor runs well. So I removed the linkage and lubed the pivot points then reconnected everything and it worked for a week, then the fuse burned again. I tried a 20 amp fuse, but get no response. I removed the 20 amp fuse, worried that the wiring would burn. I think that the bushings where the wiper arms attach might be gummed

up and causing too much resistance in the motor for the fuse. The bushings do not seem serviceable but maybe someone has lubed them successfully? Any ideas are welcome.

I did replace the blades.
I did not include this in my initial post, but I thought the motor was tired, finding a new OEM motor was proving impossible. I found a reman (150$!!) motor and installed that, only to find the plastic gear was cracked and would spin without moving the linkage. Re-installed my original and that’s when it worked for a week and burned the fuse again.

Will clean the ground and the plug and report. Might try a direct ground to battery to rule out. Thanks

Can you take the gear box apart and grease it up?

Take it apart as much as you can, then spray clean all the interior components with electronic cleaner (leaves no residue), lube the gears, and assemble. If still blowing a fuse, try a use one from locals or online salvage search. I bought a used PSG from an online salaveg search as 3 different brand aftermarket ones woulkd not accept the rag joint fitting. Got a OEM one for have the coist and perfect fit-up. 12 years later still working fine.
