Hey so I've got an 85 runner, been driving it for about 6 months, and I've got no idea how well the previous owners cared for it and my guess is not well. The other day I was driving down a freeway and after about 3 minutes of running, it sputtered a couple times (like running out of gas) and died. So I've done this so far:

1. I've got 3/4 of a tank. (only buy chevron gas)
2. Jumped the pump with a jumper wire. It runs.
3. Checked for fuel pressure, it's good.
4. Checked each plug for spark, plenty of that.
5. Injectors are not clogged
6. Replaced relays (drivers kick panel, passenger behind speaker, and under the hood)
7. intake butterfly switch is easy to move
8. Replaced the air and fuel filters.

I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Thank you

Could be the MAF, it is part of the circuit that turns the fuel pump on. Try inserting the test jumper to force the fuel pump to run, see if it starts.

Make sure your grounds are good.

I would be checking my grounds next...

1. On the intake for the fuel injectors
2. On the block ( main ground)
3. Back of the head to the firewall.

Actually take them off, sand them down (both sides) and reattach.

Make sure you don't have any leaks in your intake tubing between the throttlebody and the AFM.

check the alternator, ive had one go on me and it was exactly like that.

It is confusing because you said fuel pressure is good (35 PSI?) but a weak fuel pressure regulator could cause that. You also need to see if the pressure stays the same while the truck is running.

Go back and jump the fuel pump test connector and see if starts, it could be the air flow meter. Also your circuit opening relay might have failed as well as the igniter. The igniter sends a signal to the ECU, this signal let's the ECU know that there is spark and to turn on the injectors, without this signal the injectors will not fire.

Stupid crazy idea: Check battery voltage. If it drops below a certain level the ECU won't work. I think the level was below 10 volts. Read this in Toyota Trails a while back.

Check the dizzy cap. I've seen two trucks die because of a faint crack.
