Pretty cool, I'm really digging the 55 UTE in the street

Did you cram some of the thinsulate under the shifter/transfer console area? Is that what I am seeing? Very cool out of the ordinary build.

yes- the hump is a source of a ton of noise so i hit it initially with some ceramic goop and then used thinsulate to fill in the space under the shifter tray plastic. and it definitely took a noticeable notch of tranny noise away.super happy.

so today with covid shutdown- i ended up finishing off the pass side footwell carpet.

then moved onto a small center console replacement piece. the plan is to add a cupholder or two to cover the opening/hole of the shifter console. this piece i used the binding as an edge to keep cell phone from sliding off. Theres a piece of steel that goes from the front to back and down to the original center console mounts for rigidity/ strength......but the main idea is to keep this area nice n low unlike the original plastic console.

Then i used up the final carpet pieces to do some cargo window insulation inserts for cold weather camping.

first cut out shapes on some 1/8 fibreboard. Then stretched some carpet and stapled on the backside. then fit up some insulation on the window side..... and made two small hooks that they can sit on when in place. The thinsulate is pretty thick R5 and fits the window cavity reall well.

I hope to tackle the rear window and 2nd row door/windows tomorrow or this weekend.

- then final items on the list:
1- rear bumper chop
2- rear underbody chop....to lift and flush mount spare tire up flush to rear cargo underside/ floor. basically the plan is to channel the rear underbody between the lower latches on the crossmember to get the spare 4-5" higher up and not need to do swingouts for spare tire.
3- bike rack - need to do a provisional patent before showing it on here since i plan to produce and sell them.
4- possibly bump to 255/85 tires. still on the fence.
5- possibly hidden d.o.m. front bumper under slightly raised stock bumper plastics.

Nice work , It's turning out way better then I expected. 😉

you are just awesome... inspiring.

Just having fun........and making it all up as i go ! I figure as long as i dont catch stuff on fire and burn the cruiser to the ground....its bound to work out eventually. haha

This was so enjoyable to read. Very nice build. You made a challenging mod look easy! I bet that hump back beauty makes you smile every time to glance at her!
