ok so i should not have waited this long but i did, and i am regretting it. Called Safelite for a new windshield, finally trying to get back to fixing my rig up since I have a serious delamination issue occurring at the base. I am fine with the OEM glass being NLA, and going the route of aftermarket. Well, now the gasket is not being made. I called 2 local shops and left messages and no answer back. I am in the central florida region and can make a 100 mile drive or 200 mile no problem to get this glass fixed. Any one replaced their windshield recently?? At this point, if someone breaks their windshield, the insurance company will just total the vehicle out due to lack of parts. I could be wrong. Help me out mud thanks
 
Not sure what year your 80 is, but I can find the gasket from my Toyota dealer as well as Parsouq. Looks like there is a new part number for it. 56121-60100.

The part numbers I listed above are for my 80, which is a 4/1994, so that should be what you need.
 
Tried to call you back twice about getting you a gasket which is readily available 🤷
 
I recently had my glass replaced in VA. no trouble at all. i did NOT go through my insurance or their chosen installer, Safelite. mostly b/c I was recommended by my local TLCA chapter to use a small local shop. cost me somewhere around $500 all in. he even cleaned up and treated some corrosion that was happening in the glass channel, and he was WELL versed in the Toyota install procedure.

i sourced a new gasket from Toyota of Richmond VA, but could have also let the glass shop source a gasket, which I think was aftermarket. i thought it best to go Mr T.
glass shop sourced the glass. Mr T glass is no longer available, as you know

my glass shop does all the work for the local toyota (and other) dealers. he keeps his own small shop and does installs there on days he's not at a dealer. so maybe call or visit your local dealer and inquire who THEY use.
 
IME Safelite is hit or miss quality.

Find the local shop that does the glass work for Toyota, Lexus, or Mercedes dealerships in your area for example. They won't use
a shop or company that screws things up much more than about once.

After Safelite messed up a windshield (twice) I called around to multiple dealerships in my area and asked who they use and got the name of a good shop/installer. Might work better to go to the dealership and ask nicely at the Parts counter then walk over to the Service area and ask again who does the windshield replacements for the dealership. And/or call the local independant shops directly and ask them who they install for and then decide who to use.

Ditto as mentioned above: 56121-60100 should be the correct/current "Weatherstrip" (gasket) for the windshield on all US FJ/FZJ80's The other style of weatherstrip/gasket with the chrome insert appears to still be available for those models in other markets that used that type of rubber gasket/weatherstrip (56121-60110)

OEM glass is NLA, FUYAO was available in the past and is generally considered OEM quality. One of my 80's has OEM glass, the other FUYAO
and I can't tell the difference when driving, only downside is that FUYAO is a Chy nuh owned company if that's a factor.

My 2005 Lexus LS430 has an oem glass from Fuyao so quality must have been good for Lexus Japan to use it in the flagship sedan. So thanks for the gasket number it’s for a 1995-1997 FZJ80 which will work for my 1994
$170 at my Toyota dealer and then $613 for a pilkongton glass - more to follow
 
I need to replace my windshield due to a crack and the local LC shop connected me to their preferred glass place. I'm trying to decide which option to go with...the tech thinks I have a Blue Tint windshield on currently - I'm not great with color, is there a way to verify?

Here are the windshields they can order:
  1. Green windshield + Blue shade across the top (Fuyao)
  2. Green windshield + no shade across the top (Fuyao)
  3. Bronze windshield + no shade (Fuyao)
  4. Bronze windshield + Bronze shade (Fuyao) -- this one needs to be verified that it exists
  5. Blue windshield + Blue shade across the top (Pilkington)
My truck is Dark Emerald Pearl (6M1), all the "solar" glass (2nd, 3rd rows) looks bronze tinted to me. But the tech's paper test seemed to show the current windshield has a Blue tint.

In any case, I want to get some level of tint for the Driver and Passenger windows and my understanding is that there isn't a good way to match to the factory tint (solar glass?) that looks bronze. So with that in mind, which windshield style would you pick?

Going to go hunt for some photos. Oh and I can confirm as above and in other threads that the factory weatherstrip is still available from Toyota (56121-60100).

AFAIK the original Windshield tint on standard model US FZJ80's was blue but no shaded strip on top.

The color of the Windshield tint may not be about how it "looks" (cosmetics) it's more about how the windshield affects clarity of objects to the human eye, how much it blocks UV rays, regional regulations, etc, etc. So for example GCC countries (Middle East) may have gotten the Bronze tint, Europe may have gotten the Green tint, US got Blue, etc.etc.

IIRC the LX450 may have come with a Bronze tint windshield, and someone once posted that his 40th Anniversary had a Bronze tint and a darker strip at the top but wasn't sure if that was OEM glass or aftermarket? IDK.

From an appearance viewpoint it won't matter much standing outside looking at the vehicle what color the windshield is because no matter how it's tinted at the factory (the layer in the middle) it can't be tinted very much or it would affect safety.

After that it's personal preference.

After reading this thread about matching tint I started calling around to my local tint shops to find anyone using Llumar Bronze 35. It seemed there was little call for bronze colored tint these days and nobody stocked the stuff. Because it could only be ordered in rolls of 100 feet the shops wouldn’t order it unless I paid for the entire roll, since they feared they would never use the rest. So I ordered the whole roll. Now I have enough to do the front windows on 15 more 80s! Anyone else is in the same predicament I was and is in need of some tint?

I called a guy I've used to tint my cars in past to get a quote for my FZJ80. He's one of the better rated tint guys where I live from what I can tell and I've been happy.

I was surprised he told me he doesn't tint cars that are 25 years old. I was caught off guard and don't recall all of the reasons he gave. Something about brittle rubber (windows seals) and plastic. He also mentioned there's a higher chance of the glass being in bad shape and getting a bad result. A quick search tells me some installers remove door panels and possibly even rubber seals on the outside to apply heat...

Has anyone tried this stuff? It mostly keeps the factory look but offers same protection from sun and heat as dark tint. Any feedback on if you like it?

Just as a point of reference for June of 2026 my local Toyota dealer's website let me order the OEM glass ( 56111-60190 ).
Pricey, but not wildly more than a local shop with quality glass.

False hope, thought there may have been a new batch but no, cancelled after 30+ days.

Not sure why it let me order it, let alone let them even put the order in to Toyota, but currently confirmed as NLA.

Went through the same thing at the beginning of the year. The dealer eventually called me and said they didn't know why the part number had been reactivated, but they had confirmed that it was NLA and a new batch was not being made.

And assuming you had the normal blue before that, do you notice any difference in how things look in different sun conditions?

Awesome reply as usual - thank you! I learned something new. I think you're right that the LX's came with Bronze (at least according to some posts I found).

I read through those threads and they are very helpful for folks thinking about window tinting (which I am). Unfortunately I'm not having much luck searching for photos of 80s with windshields that have a shade band. I like the idea in theory but need a visual to help. I'll also check if the shop can help me.
 
You can order aftermarket glass with any color shade band you want, or have your local glass installer do it for you. I just had this done last week. FWIW, I would not let Safelite touch any of my Land Cruisers, especially my 80s.
