I wish he would allow someone else to make them for him, I've wanted one for over a year

I too never seem to get the email notification in a time that lets me score one........sigh

x2 on @socallove . I've had it on for just over a year now with no issues. It's still raw aluminum and has held up well.

Have one in each of my 80s. I have seen them, he's a real person, and his stuff is the joint. Worth the wait and the expense, but that's my opinion based on real world use for years. His products are very refined.
I would love to wait for one but I'm leaving on a big trip soon and need it before then.

I have a contact list going right now with close to 70 people on it for the three series.

If you're not already on it I will add you.

Thx

J
Please add me as well. I want one!!

Haha, right there with you. A buddy in Seattle got one prior to the slowdown/increased demand - and like you I got the last email ~5-6 months ago when I was buying the 2nd 80, killing my fund$ for a real deal Kevin one.

I'm willing to wait - after seeing one in person I can't knock anyone elses' effort (reevesci seems to really be going to great effort to make it fit like a champ), but Kevin's are pimp. It'll happen.

But you're not alone, plenty of us in the boat buddy!

The problem with waiting for Kevin's is that I just don't want that kind of hassle when giving someone my hard earned money. I'd much rather support someone that will continue to create products for my 80s.

His stuff may be super duper awesome but I don't think I should feel like charity by giving someone my money.

On top of that, I have a rack and sliders from @reevesci. I'll put his workmanship up against anyone's.

Wagongear is worth the wait!! So are his flip up windows! It's like saying I will buy a Ford Fiesta because Toyota won't make the Prius!

Thanks J,

All,

I'll have tailgate pricing on Wed/Thurs per my vendor.

There ya go, right there. Jason @reevesci has contributed a huge amount to the 60/62 series guys and is doing so with the 80 a bit as well. Everyone bitches "I wish someone would make this, I wish someone would make that", well Jason DOES. He makes quality stuff at a fair price. If you guys want continued support for your vehicle, it makes a lot of sense to support the guys that are doing it on a day to day basis with quality products.

I have to admit though, I use his products for a living. I NEED his stuff in order to turn out a truck to the customer's specs. I need it at a specific time and can not schedule around a part time production schedule.

I hear you there too - yeah, I even emailed Kevin some 3-odd weeks back bugging him for a release, but he's like how Ken Hanna was - he has a primary gig & so if you want it, you may have to wait. IIRC Ken only built mine since I'd been bugging him for the bumper to match the sliders for literally a year, and I think mine was either last or 2nd to last bumper he did.

Not out to knock @reevesci stuff in the least, we've talked tools in that forum and I bet he'll knock it out of the park (heck, I may jump on board if he flat kills it).

Point being, Kevin has the bar set pretty dang high right now - and despite having shop quality / duty cycle welders & plasma cutter at home, Kevin's seems like smart money compared to the billable hours I charge myself if I were to build mine. I spend that time doing mods on my current boat (welded AL Wooldridge) & such (next project will be a welded aluminum jet sled hull, with uhmw skids).

I dunno, if I was asked to sell my Hanna stuff I wouldn't, so the wait was worth it in spades there - but yeah, I suppose if Kevin doesn't have a release prior to Reeve's going on the market, I may into it too. I'm just being honest & right now the only option on the market I would plunk cash is Kevin - I sit on my gate tons doing the waders/fish gear, etc - so we'll see if Reeves makes a convert out of me too.

Kevin makes a great product. I've bought and used his products on my 60s for years. When no one could get antenna mounts from Kevin, I contacted him and bought his antenna inventory with a blessing to remake them as well. I get call after call on many things, not just Kevin's stuff. I'm picky on what I build and even then I still trash them later on if I'm not happy. I even asked him a couple of years ago if I could weld things for him to keep the products rolling better for him.

Kevin and I are both single person companies. I just buy in a large enough quantity that the numbers and 3rd party costs are slimmed way down. I don't know what my prices are going to be yet. They may be too high, IMO, and I won't produce a single one. I'll know more about it this week.

The test piece of the framed/perimeter supported 7075 aluminum door (just one side of the lid) was loaded up with 340#s and was just fine. So sitting, standing or pretty much anything weight related is not a concern to me with these lids.

All in all, I'm pretty easy to work with and I know guys have loyalties and friendships they support. I do too.

I hear ya. Prior to getting my 80 sliders (first to get them and my 93 was used as the template for everyone else) and roof rack Jason spent many hours discussing what I wanted out of my rack and going back and forth. I bounced ideas off of him and he gave me input back. I wanted something that nobody else had done before and Jason came through. It is perfect.

We also discussed, at length, bumpers and what I want. I told him I didn't think I was in the market yet financially but he still took the time to walk through it with me and help me get it figured out for when I am ready.

The bar is irrelevant if the products he produces are such limited quantity that they are unobtainable. In my opinion. Regardless, I would contend that Jason's quality is as fine as I've seen.

Different strokes for different folks. @reevesci 's tailgate is 2 doors which is appealing to me as want to be able to access a drawer (soon to be drawer) and tailgate storage at the same time. With a one piece door this is obviously not possible.

Pick your pleasure, both Kevin and Jason have excellent feedback from everyone on MUD.

Liking the two door design much better. Fridge out, stuff on one side of the tailgate, etc., would work much better. Last alert I got from Wagongear a few months ago was sold out immediately. That's just frustrating. Wagongear does provide an excellent disclaimer on how his production works. It seems obvious that if it was profitable a feller would outsource, so if there's no money to be made so be it. Free market has already created some competition. This Trail Tailor gate is the first product that not only rivals wagonstuff, but surpasses it in my opinion.

Yep, totally with you when it comes to some stuff.

And it was a good 18 months from initial convo to final delivery for my set of sliders & rear bumper from Hanna. He never BS-ed you, he was simply busy & if you wanted his stuff you had to accept he wasn't like a trip to Wally for your stuff.

Money talks 90% the time, but as a steelhead fisher (PNW folks know what I'm saying) - the only way to hook a steelie sometime is to just put in hours/days waiting for a gentle nib, let alone a full hookup/landing. And even then if it's a native you gotta turn it back to the river.

So yeah, it's a matter of perspective - if you've seen what you deem "KOM" status & want that for yourself, nothing else is worth mentioning, unless a new product comes to market (Reeves is who I think, the certain other vendor I choose not to include as a factor, he's doing his thing & prob gets some $$$ since Kevin is hard to get a gate kit from.)

So yeah, it's Kevin/Wagongear or Reeves new product (haven't cruised the 100- forums, dunno the downlow on his for that model) -- but I'm interested to see the differences. Like said prev, I could be a convert if Reeves is that great - looks possible with the work he's putting in. 2 separate doors can be both a pro / con depending what you plan to stash back there (hi-lift, pew-pew stick) or a compartmentalized tow /winch gear situation.

We'll see!

Just curious about your dismissal of the socallove lids....They work very well and IMO, are a solid value. In addition, he is proactively working on 100 series, 60 series, and rear quarter panel storage. Something weird or unethical going on?
