Hey guys, I went to Chris's shop earlier today to clarify some things and check out his work. This guy does really good work and his welding is excellent, he has a lot of experience under his belt and does quality work.
- I had an extensive discussion whether to weld on the sliders or drilling through the frame for bolts, he said welding the sliders onto the frame is stronger than the bolts as the bolts will get loose over time, if it ever needs to be removed, one can always cut it and grind it down. I don't have enough experience to agree or disagree but it make some sense, I don't know if the heat from welding it is hot enough change the metallurgy of the frame compromising structural integrity. The same issue with structural integrity came up when we talked about drilling into the frame, I thought that once you drill the frame of a vehicle , it automatically becomes a salvage title, but that concern is for another chapter.
I'm leaning towards welding onto the frame to avoid drilling, the process is a bit easier as well. This is something we need to clarify, what we want as a group or individual, so I would appreciate if everyone could chime in and participate.
- I also discuss about payment, he clearly stated he need half cash deposit for him to start, he will not take paypal or credit card. If you are not comfortable with this method, you can contact him to discuss other methods of payment. For the folks that are far away or don't have time to come by his shop, I can help out if you paypal gift me to avoid charges or if you want to pay the charges, that's up to you, I will withdraw cash to pay him on your behalf.
- It will take him about 2 weeks to get all 5 sets finished as soon as he get the deposit, personally I'm not in a huge rush to get this done, but once I start something I want to get it done as soon as possible so I can get started on other things.
This is his shop location and contact info, if you have any questions you can contact him directly and update the thread if you have helpful info.
