So I was playing this morning trying to get the new spring hinge spot welded onto the LockBox and lid. Turns out I didn't allow enough room to get the lower arm of the welder into the box. Major bummer. After hunting around all morning for different designs or ideas for making my own arm, I found an AK-47 manufacturer that makes modified tongs and tips for the spot welder. One of them looks like it would work perfectly. So I ordered it up and should have tomorrow. Sorry, one more day behind but at this point it's just about connecting all the dots.

Ordered...no rush.

Nice. Wits End AK-47s should go nicely with the Wits End tailgate smugglers compartment.

Ok going back to the felt lining. I have two rolls that have the right adhesive and both generally ok to work with. But one is very thin (1/32") and the other is about 3/16" thick. The width of the box right now is 5". I like the thickness that the 3/16" felt has and would do better to protect anything inside but since the box is 5", losing about 3/8" kinda sucks. But I need to get everyone's feedback on this. I don't have an opinion either way and since I have both I'm ok with letting you all decide which to use. I will take a pic of both materials side by side in a minute.

Thanks @NLXTACY . Probably leaning more toward the G8R, as it could work in a trailer as well.

G8R retail is $182, $110 to you. In stock.
Protector II retail is $173, $135 to you. 3 weeks lead time.
Their discounting is very odd.

I have no idea if those prices are good or bad so...let me know :P

Those purposing the lockbox as a gun safe might chime in the best on opinions on the felt. Mine won't be purposed for anything specific (other than phone and cash), so I'm good with either. And felt should be pretty easy to change if I really need/want to.

Those were the folks I was aiming towards. This stuff is REALLY sticky and I wouldn't exactly say it'll be a simple swap over. I was thinking about making it an option but ugh...too many options to keep track of at this point.

Do you have a stinky option yet? :flipoff2:

He he. I see what you did there. Gun box, aiming. Ha. The thickness of felt to me I don't think matters as much as durability. If I have a gun in there with some sharp edges, or anything with sharp edges how durable is the felt going to be and how quickly is it going to scratch up and what not.

Here is the lid WITHOUT the emboss for the ComboCam option with the lock installed. As you can see there won't be a flush mounted version of this. I can still make the concealment liner with the cutout for the lock. I can still make it look clean, I suppose, but yeah I'm not a fan. The action itself isn't bad though. It's a Made in China piece which doesn't give me the warm fuzzies.

Here is the same lid with the Medeco lock and tumbler. Of course this lid is without the emboss that will allow the lock's bezel to sit flush but you get the idea.

I am leaning towards the thicker felt. It may provide some additional protection for the gun in the box. My thought is if a specific gun doesn't fit... just sounds like a good excuse to get a new one. No matter what, my seecamp 32 will fit so it's not a big deal.

I'll take what I can get, but vote for thicker lining. Gives me an excuse to buy a new toy that fits...
