I'm late on the 80 scam over here but we were cracking up on it over at the AL thread. I got this email from the seller the other day. The picture is a diesel 80 btw.

Hello ,
My name is Margaret, and I'm emailing you about 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser that I have for sale. The SUV is in perfect condition, with no need for any additional repairs. Flawless exterior/interior condition, no scratches and no dents. It has never been involved in an accident. The mileage is 147,000, Automatic transmission, with an 4.5L 4 Cylinder engine size, White exterior and tan Gray interior. It has a clear title with no loans or liens on it. The price was reduced at $3,800 as I need to sell the SUV before the 8 of August when I will be leaving with my platoon back to Afghanistan, so I don't want getting it old in my backyard. If you have any other questions, or need more info, please feel free to ask.

Thank you,
Margaret

does this mean that while I am TDY at FT Jackson my truck is "getting old" in my garage.....Uncle Sam better reimburse me for this!!!!!

Man I need to get home and check the oil on my 4.5L 4 cylinder too.

Some info that I am learning here at the Caddy dealership... The famous 6.2 is also famous for eating the lobes off the cam shafts. They have replaced quite a few since I have been here the techs are even saying stay away from the motor.

I will say after helping Cameron with his TBI on his 60....I am leaning now towards a 5.7 TBI when I swap.

I know it is probably like the 80 head gasket.....it only happens on a very few for the mass that is produced but it is interesting to say the least.

I think that is a huge mistake. 5.3 or 6.0....bone stock will give you 100 more HP and are virtually trouble free and there are tons of great, easy upgrades.

The TBI system is very simple and good, but the Vortec system is worlds better for fuel management and power.

They are available cheaper than a TBI motor and they still make it......

Not knocking Cameron's choice but if you are going to start from scratch....find the motor and do the swap, get a $500 5.3

New motor is really unnecessary if you find a good truck. These engines are so good at fuel management that you really cannot hurt them if you change the oil.

Each his own, but the price difference is huge and just not needed. My 6.0 had 22,000 miles on it. I bought the whole truck, pulled the motor and sold the rest of the stuff for what I paid for it. Motor was free.

Cameron's choice in this case was a swapping a used TBI system for the carb on my 2F. Cost me less than $500.

If I was starting from scratch, I'd probably go 5.3.

5.7 TBI is the simplest of the GM fuel injection setups...but in the 5.7 world the TBI engine is not a powerhouse by any means but it is easy to work on and very dependable and simple to setup etc. The 5.7 vortec makes more power but is more aggrivating to setup. The new style 5.3 and 6.0 GM engines make some good power and I've seen a number of swaps with the 5.3 that seem to work out well. The 6.2 enigne is pretty new I think and I belive it also has the variable fuel setup that saves gas but to me would only be useless in a 4*4 swap. The new 6.2 engines make more power than the 6.0. The 6.0 engine comes in the 3/4 ton trucks while the 6.2 is in the half ton stuff.

If you can buy the entire donor vehicle thats the way to go... because rounding up all the small pieces will nickle and dime you to death.

80-Series STOCK front bumper.....

Anyone have one they'd like to part with? Mom challenged a concrete pylon in the parking deck last week with her '96.... and lost.

Each bumper I've come across in the classified section has been far from local.

Thanks,
Justin
