No it does not engage at all. No blinking cruise light on dash ( not producing a code).
 
Lemming. 6.2's are about the same as the 6.5 after you add the turbo and manifolds. Not a cummins, Detroit, or dmax but not nearly bad as most folks put on.

Ugh....I spent a lot of time driving them in the military. What a dog with fleas. No way, even with all the work would I bother.

If you can't afford the 4BT get a gas V8 instead.

I prolly drove as many as you when I was in and I would have to agree that a NA 6.2 is barely enough to get out of its own way. Remember though, those all had like 29" tires and 456 gears. They tached out at about 60mph! To turn a J code 6.2 into a 6.5 torbo (nearly) all you have to do is swap the 6.5 turbo stuff onto a 6.2. While still no powerhouse they get along pretty good. I easily won a drag race against a 100 series v8, a supercharged 1FZ, a Cummins 4bt, and some others not worth mentioning in Alaska driving Roger T's FJ62 with a 6.5TD with nothing more done to it than an adjustable waste gate to increase boost a little. Just sayin..

Obviously, the 4bt would be a much better choice if you can get past the cost, noise, shakes, etc. (none of which would bother me in the least). Gasser would be great but it wouldn't get me where I want to go. Maybe the next one...
 
I have also had them in personal trucks (my dad's)

We had a 6.5 Turbo (new truck) and it was a really nice motor. I was always impressed. It was night and day to the old 6.2 that we had before that.......

The 6.2 we sold to my uncle and he kept it to 200,000 miles. Always a solid truck, just a smelly turd.

The 6.5 we sold at about 30K...no clue after that.

As long as you tune it better than Roger (if possible)

His truck is so smelly I just hate being on the trail around it (the 40)

If I had it.....

Remove doors, hatch, tailgate, fender flares....sell, pay off 50% of the purchase price

Weld rear diff

Put 2" spacers on all 4 corners

Find some 315's for CHEAP

Keep street legal....rock it around town some. Let the kids paint it.

Bend it with a/c blowing in my face.

Maybe add a winch at some point.

from where I'm sitting you have the time/skills.....just put the kids on the street corner with a lemonade stand and make Red work weekends.

why dont you just sell the mail shop and do what you do best......flip cars?
 
Seeing if there is any interest in my 80. Its a 97 230k, 5" OME comp lift, 4+ upper control arms, adjustable panhard rods, locking diffs, 5:29 gears, deflared and sprayed with line-x, 40" X-terrains(spare new), New Pro Comp Wheels, snorkel, ARB front with 12k Smittybuilt winch, 4x4 labs rear bumper, body is very straight interior could use refresh, needs longfields and part time kit(I have the hubs for the swap). Never thought I would ever get rid of it but changes are in the making and I am just trying to adapt.:bang: Will also include all the parts I have been stashing for a 6.0L swap. Any interest call 601-665-8588. I'll make the price right.

Always glad to help a good neighbor, maybe having some pressure locally that he can't blow off may help push things along :)
