You are worried about an 8" 3rd in the front breaking yet are pondering a rear steer Toyota axle? Are you high?

no no no. Although someone (not anyone here) thought I was gathering parts for rear-steer! LOL.
That thread was brought up for the sole purpose of flipping the dif upside down... which wasn't the case anyway. He's running his difs normally.

The axle in question is not for the samurai. think about what thread we are in..

The axle is flipped upside down in that buggy because it is rear engine and the transmission is backwards. If you did not run the diff upside down it would go in reverse. Totally different than running a high pinion in the rear.

I, of course, am completely lost on what this is all about.

upside in the original housing... cause the housing is upside down. but not upside as you run it... LOL. That must have been what got Lenny lost.
Anyway. It won't go backwards. Hi-pinion difs don't run backwards either, they're just reverse cut, and there are even reputable sites that state hi-pinion reverse cut pinions run backwards, but that's not true. hi-pinion axles became popular because they are 30% stronger in the front than a standard dif of the same size.

In any event. I'm working on a front axle project. I got all the parts minus the links. I got good people in the know helping me with ideas. The parts were about to be scrapped... so I figured I'd spend my summer trying to piece together junk.

I like that you think out side the box. Use all those APR guys while you b in Camburn...

Did APR ever finish the test track?

Those guys can't keep up with my sideways thinking... I'm tapping into generic offroaders that have alot of 1ton and buggy experience.

APR never finished the track, not sure they are anymore.

Don't worry, it does not matter what I say either even if I have done it 3, 5, 12 times......you will get used to it.

Sounds like me talking to my wife.

I am assuming you and I are saying the same thing Shunt. Don't worry, it does not matter what I say either even if I have done it 3, 5, 12 times......you will get used to it.

Some people just have to do it themselves to really "get" it. I'm the same way. Doesn't mean I don't value an experienced person's opinion - just means I learn best by doing and screwing it up.

Makes it more fun for you when you say, "Remember when I told you this would happen?"

Yes this! without screwing it up though ;)

I value everyone's opinions but it doesnt mean i will take the advice do what already had been done. I just like putting a little twist on my builds.

One of the reasons i went with a dana 300 in zuk is after talking with nolen about the drivetrain in the bash buggy. He had strength issues with the yota d train .For me putting the d300 was different, more challenging but also stronger and a more rewarding build.

H€ll everyones knows its cheaper to buy a built 80.... Now. But way back when i got into this sport, or more accurately contracted this disease, you either paid somEone to do the work or do it yourself. My only option was to do it myself ( read-broke).

So i guess i am still in that mode. I still will search for the projects that i believe i CAN do but also that are a challenge. Keep in my this is my hobby, not my job. So its fun FOR ME, to find out whats out there that would be fun and diiferent to build.

This probably won't make sense to most of you especially if you buy fully built rigs and just do bolt on stuff.

I am not knocking this at all, and i will probably buy a built rig and get some boltons as well. But i am finding less and less boltons out there that accomplish what i need it to AND be affordable.

The forums are a valuable tool to find out what has been done and also what hasnt. Biggest issue i run into is can i build it myself, but thats also the challenging part.

So welcome to the ride, it can be rough at times but mostly fun :)

my needs do not require bolt-ons, but if she want'em to feel better about herself then she can get'em.

Eggs Actly!

Same reason there's a D300 in my whip. Was a challenge, but glad I went that route. Front digs have gotten me out of a bind a few times now. Just adds another trick to the arsenal :steer:

Fact and fact. Same crew in mud takes rattle can black to perfectly good chrome too :)

cause it won't get you home.
Those 94 cloth seats are the most comfortable seats in a 80-cruiser period. And it not only gives you more leg room, but they sit lower as well...
I tried getting the 94 seats from matthew for my 91's... he ain't having it.
