Finally getting around to this project. The one on the right is from Aus from a RHD truck. The one on the left I assembled from parts sourced from Yan at Cruiser Addiction in Canada. Only minor differences between them and I think either will work. Hope is to have a little smoother operation than the current modified 60 series set-up that came in the truck.

Nice!

FREE TO A GOOD, '80 SERIES CRUISER LOVING HOME!! (free until the "new year optimism" wears off, then this s*** will cost you $$)

Decent set of factory running boards from a '97 LX450.

Also a front black grille/brush guard from the same truck.

And...a decent set of bolt on tail light guards for an '80 series.

Canton/Flora area. Best to reach me at 6 oh 1 7 two 0 4 five 65.

Yep. Saw that one again yesterday. Jitters is right.

If time allowed I would love to pull the 3FE out of my 92 for a DD for my youngest and install this low mile 6.2 CUCV I have sitting in my shop back into the 92. That would be awesome for the upcoming AK trip...

Has anyone local tackled a V8 swap in a FJ80? GM 5.3 or 6.0 with matching GM transmission? I'm wondering if this might be my next project.

I almost have everything to swap mine. I'm using a cammed 6.0 with the 4L80 trans. I'm after power and want to be able to tow. If you want power and fuel mileage go with a 5.3 with a 4L60. Either buy the 4L60 new or have the donor rebuilt with 4L65 parts and it will last longer. All I'm lacking is the motor mount kit and adaptor from Marks. With Marks mounts is bolt in other than the exhaust on the 1fz-fe. On the 3fe trucks you have to weld in mounts. You don't even have to get drive shafts modified. I will start a thread when I get ready for mine.

I would keep the 80 t-case. I wish I had AWD when it's wet out. Not because I lose control much, but because I could still drive like a maniac.

Which tcase?

Stock. HF2A. I want to keep AWD as I have a heavy right foot and 450hp/480ftlbs split between front and rear axle seems better than just traveling through the rear.

I'm "thinking" on buying an FJ80 with blown engine (HG) or otherwise and kick off a V8 swap from there.

Average 5.3 dropout from 99-06 is $1500ish
6.0 is $2000ish
LS1 $1800+++++

Mileage is the biggest factor on price as is aluminum engine block (LS series and HO truck). I'm a fan of an iron block myself. Don't let mileage fool you these are good engines. Personally I would not use a 2007 or newer they are more expensive and have DOD which kills motors. If you do end up with a 2007+ buy the DOD delete kit.

Remember if you are using the stock case you will need a 2wd 4L60 or a 4wd 4L80 otherwise you will be swapping output shafts. There is a 2wd 4L80 that you can use that has splines all the way up to the back of the trans.

DOD...what are your referring to? cylinder deactivation or whatever GM calls it?

Displacement On Demand. Cuts oil flow to lifters so they collapse killing that cylinder. GM did it to help a push rod motor meet current emissions.
