80 back from the cheap Maaco paint job…

Looks great! Where are you guys getting these 30% off coupons??

I had Maaco paint a Mitsubishi Eclipse in the 90s. If I recall it was $300. :) It looked great but faded pretty fast. Maybe 2 years and it started looking almost flat. I must say that I did NOT take care of it though. Never waxed and parked it outside in the sun.

I might have to take my 80 for one of these. It was changed from OEM 6M1 to gold. I assume it was a maaco job because it is flaking and looking pretty rough. They didn't use OEM fender flare gaskets either. They did do all the door jams and everything. You can't really tell it was green unless you look. I'd love to go back to green and for $2500, it would be worth it.
I got the coupon in an email. My understanding is they do that once or twice a year. I actually wouldn’t mind if mine dulled a bit. I would have gone with stain or matte if they offered it.

Yours turned out great! Took mine to Maaco too, knew there was a really good one about 2 hours south and I took a gamble on the closer one (super new facility). I had some major problems when they gave it back, but the owner actually reached out and fixed the situation. Wish I had gone to the one in New Braunfels 2 hours away originally but for under $3k (it was their top package) can't complain too much... but still kind of shocked at what they pulled on me originally lol.

Maaco's are super hit or miss

The paint depth / clear coat isn't as good as the 90's (I noticed this too with early 2000's BMW paint - hard to replicate) but that's a government regulation and race-to-profit problem.

My biggest fear is how Maaco's "best" clearcoat will actually hold up to the Texas sun, I've had it curing in the garage for 6~months now which is a bit excessive, hoping not to re-visit this problem for 5 years or more.

Oh interesting. I had no idea to find a good Maaco but luckily I am about an hour from the one in New Braunfels and it has great reviews.

Everything I read said you must research the good Maaco’s as there are plenty of bad ones.

Did the shop remove the fender flares and replace them for that price or did you do that? Same question for the door handles, grill, headlamps, tail lamps, side marker lamps, etc?
I did it cheap. I took off bumpers and grille and wipers. They took off flares and taped everything else. Lights all stayed in as did door handles (they wanted a lot to remove those ). Mine look like crap and I need to figure out a good way to paint them black.

I had a coworker take his classic Cutlass Supreme to the highest rated Maaco in the Raleigh area. When they got it back it looked like Ray Charles painted it. Everywhere there was overspray and run marks. It looks great from 100ft away but up close it's an epic disaster.
