Had several PMs and emails asking why I was selling ... this is the long winded answer that I just emailed:
I've always loved the 55s and used to own a '73 that was pretty rusty, I told myself if I ever found a non-rusty pig I'd buy it. A local Cruiser buddy had bought this from the original owner out of New Mexico and did the OM617 swap, he ended up with too many toys and I couldn't resist. I sold my '76 40 that I had owned for 12 years to buy it, and it ended up needing a lot more work than I had anticipated. Long story short ... I'm married with two little kids, I get a few "Cruiser weekends" a year which usually entail camping and rock crawling. Other than that I cruise up to the local pub every Friday afternoon for HH with my local WALCS buddies. This truck is setup for long-range overland expeditions, I was terrified of destroying it every bump and scrape on the rocks (not that it wouldn't do it). I told myself it would be great for camping and hunting with the family, but in Texas where it's a zillion degrees Mar-Oct my 100 is the better choice if I want to bring the wife and kiddos along. So for me another 40 is just a better option, I recently picked up a nice '76 from Georg out of California.
Long winded I know - but that's why I'm selling her. The original owner had installed the 55 gal tank that I had redone and an auxiliary 22 gal tank, they used to take it on extended expeditions down into Mexico and the Baja for weeks at a time. With the diesel the aux tank wasn't needed anymore (25mpg vs 12mpg), but that's what this is really setup for. Cooler climate, overland travel and camping ... it would be perfect
I put on step style sliders for the kiddos, it's got shoulder belts all around ... so would also be kid friendly for a DD in a cooler climate.
