This is a second owner vehicle. I have never seen one in this great of condition unless it is a complete restore. This one needs nothing. 100% original. It looks like it is off the showroom. Very small traces of rust. I can send photos to serious inquiries.

49k. Ships from Costa Rica. Insured. You tell me the port.

For sure an original color Bill but she's been repainted which is easy to spot. Nothing wrong with repaints but I got the impression from the text it was not a restoration. The words "100% original" are subject to interpretation.

The "B" diesel engine is a four cylinder, a six cylinder diesel was never offered as point out above by forum member joekatana. There's no mileage listed, no details at all about the truck. Many of these Costa Rica trucks are hammered and then dressed up to look good. Most sell for less than 1/2 of the price point of this truck. This crowd on MUD consists of some very knowledgable Land Cruiser enthusiast. Do your DD and share the details and all the pictures.

GLWS,
Greg

I looked at the engine and it is stamped with an "H" and not a "B." I am taking possession on Friday (or Monday) depending on his paperwork being in order. Right now, I only have limited photos. I will be making video of the entire vehicle as a walk through and videoing the bed too where many of these are completely destroyed. The bed on this one looks like it hasn't been used.

I am familiar with the beat up vehicles. Since I live in Costa Rica and export 2-3 per month, I get to see all kinds of conditions. I probably look at 6-10 vehicles each week here and they are in various condition. Thus, when I say "I have never seen one in this condition" I mean it.

Beware if it has an old H engine because when the new US owner presents it for inspection and the inspector notices the 4 replaced for a 6 it might be a long time before it is on the road.

Coastall Bill if you are looking to get that kind of money for it you might have to sell it with a US title included.

Bill, For that kind of asking price you will most certainly receive some serious scrutiny calling it 100% original. I'm no expert, but that's a $30,000 truck

Thats a great selling point! Never seen more nonsense than every costa rican rig that pops up here. $14.900 maybe?
I will buy any you find in this condition at $14,900 in the states. Especially in Menlo. Those are some great prices you're finding.

It is weird that you've never seen more nonsense when the cheapest house in Menlo Park where you claim to live is 3/4 of a million dollars. The next one is 1.4M. But, living around SF probably helps you skew what the idea of nonsense is.

That truck will not be able to be registered in the US. No data plate as mentioned above. Don't want anyone to have a "45K" paperweight.

Sorry to say, but this truck is not 100% original. If they went through the time and expense of repainting, odds are then went through the time and expense of making it derivable again. Who knows what your actually buying when the seller doesn't even know what he is selling.

I am sure you know that the number is stamped on the frame and the motor. It is so odd that we've exported about 12 so far and not once has US Customs relied on the data plate. Rather, they rely on the number that is stamped on the motor and frame.

The funny part is you probably paid 10k for it. What does geoghraphic location matter? Because there is money here means we have to pay up for a freshly painted who knows whats under that paint( costa rica loves bondo). Not to mention the h engine makes about 80 hp. 49 k is pure nonsense, oh and the real estate market here is pure nonsense too unless you happen to own a house!

Just an FYI, a huge percentage of foreign (ie non USA) trucks never came with a door mounted data plate. I actually think that was a U.S. Spec thing. customs & the dmv rely on the vin plate on the firewall and/or the vin stamp on the frame, as mentioned by Bill above. No comments on the value of the truck, just wanted to help clarify anyone's fears about the data plate.

No, the vin on the body and engine must match the data plate. Otherwise a person could swap in a newer engine and break the 25 year rule.

This is basic import 101 stuff...

I paid more than that for it. I also know what Bondo looks like. Since I see a ton of these vehicles each week, it is not difficult to spot. The bad part is that saying all CR Land Cruisers are covered in bondo is like saying every FJ outside of Arizona and California is a rust bucket. The two statements are gross generalizations.

Sure, there are probably cars that have come out of CR with Bondo. Heck, I have seen lots. But I have also seen lots of cars in the States in decrepit condition.

Not every car here is in the condition you describe. Just like not every car in Colorado or Wyoming is rusted. Those kind of statements are simply to sweeping to be true.

As I mentioned, I am going to go through it with a fine-tooth comb. My mechanic (full time employee) will also be going through it. I will be creating videos and photos of every inch of the vehicle. I will be searching for bondo, rust, issues, missing items, etc.

Probably at the end of next week before I have completed all of the preliminary work. Once done, I will set my final asking price and people who want it can make an offer.
