Working on my sons 74FJ 40. It has a 2F in it that came from a 86 FJ60. I believe it to be a Toyota carburetor.

There was no motor in it when I purchased it. The linkage for the accelerator was hanging. So, I'm at a little bit of a disadvantage.

I've looked at several threads, but for some reason mine seems different.

I believe the curved square section of the linkage fits around the speedometer cable. With one end of the linkage inserting into the rubber piece attached to the firewall?

How do I connect the ball on the end of the linkage to the ball on the carburetor? I'm not sure what I'm missing.

Here are a few pictures of what I have.

This picture is from a separate thread, not mine. Is the piece circled all I am missing?

Looks like that last link you circled is all your missing. I think you’ve got a good understanding of what you need but just in case, see pic. Green lime is that missing link.

Excellent! Missing one piece, not bad. Thank you

there are 2 different brackets for the carb end pivot.
currently you have the bracket that needs a ball at the end of the horizontal rod, a hairclip holds the ball in the socket
the horizontal rod you currently have needs the bracket with a hole in it, versus the socket, the rod goes thru the hole and the hairpin keeps it from falling out of the hole

just looked again, the bracket in the fourth pic is the one needed on the carb for the horizontal linkage you currently have

This is a photo from when I changed my linkage from the newer ball and socket to the older bushing type. Maybe helpful?
It looks like you have the newer ball receiver on the carb and older bushing on the torque rod.

I have this on the carburetor.

I found this piece, but can't separate the ball. And the ball in the above picture doesn't come out.

Does my follow up post above have the right rod?

I suppose I need what connects with two sockets here and here. The rod I have won't work

the post from @devo above shows the 2 different style brackets for the different horizontal rod
you need a short rod with a female end on each end for the link between the horizontal rod to the carb linkage

the short rod you show is not the correct rod for the link, also looks like that rod has been modified/welded

So I need a different bracket for the horizontal rod.

Then I need a rod with two female ends to connect the two.

Thank you

or you could get a different horizontal rod, to match your current bracket, but still need the short link

@devo pic above shows the difference in the 2 different rods and brackets

This is too easy.

Use the 80-84 Fj40 linkage rod and the 75-84 fj40 rod link, pictured below. The firewall bracket never changed except for parking brak cable retention style (74/75 is what you have now, 76-79 is the c-clip style and 80-84 doesn't have since parking brake retention).

Keep everything else you have and it will work together. Don't forget the clip and spring.

Where to get it? I've built countless 80's but on understanding 40's, nothing has been "too easy" 👍

Depends, just put a wanted ad out for the linkage used or @FJ40GURU offers a reproduction for the entire linkage.

@red66toy @NookShneer might also have them on hand.

Finding parts is half the fun (or most of the fun if you're me). Driving is the easy part, haha.

Not sure if this photo is helpful? This is what it looks like with the old style rod. I got rid of the ball and socket from my 1981 because they were incredibly sloppy! I’m looking for a photo of the ball n socket set up.
