50 lb lift struts were marginal for my hood. When the hood started to fall because they were getting weaker, I ditched them in favour of the discarded pair off my wife’s Prius. Now if I release the tie downs and pull the safety lever it goes up on its own… so consider recycling if you have other struts around. OEM Toyota struts are much better quality than the cheaper ones around.
Reduce, reuse, and recycle.
If my rear struts get soft… I’ve still got the pair I pulled off the hood.
