the only time I get to work on the vehicles for more than an hour at a time is in the summer. well this summer threw me a curve with some back surgery that I've been putting off for more than 2 years now, so it's been even slower than normal:meh:

I'm strongly considering a split transfercase

Any feedback you can give on the transfercase? Noise vibration (or lack thereof) etc. Would you do it again?

no vibrations, but there is only the 3/4" shackle extension and a 1" body lift so none of my driveline angles are extreme.

IMO, the overdrive gain of the 700R4 is not worth the install modifications necessary to avoid serious complications. as you might have guessed, the rear driveshaft is a whopping 17". with any more than a 3/4" lift I would have seriously had to consider an extended wheel base and DC shafts with both the front and rear axle housings needing a cut-and-turn. on the AA tranny conversion kit I used, the only DC joint I could have used up front would have been a small one for lack of clearance between the transmission pan. a "small" DC joint is not exactly what you would like to have on a "trail ready rig". this particular rig is not going to see any serious trail bashing

again, this is only my opinion but I will be installing a turbo 350 tranny behind a SBC in my next project and think it will be a much easier install. I'll definately have to make similar modifications that were made for the 700R4 but the driveline length won't be nearly the same.

I'm pretty sure the 350 tranny will offer comfortable highway speeds with 33" tires, making the overdrive unnecessary. just my 2cents:meh:

That is different than I had heard. I was told that with the split you gained enough clearance to use a larger DC joint. Arggg.....

Thanks for the info.
