Yeah, I definitely won't go double cab. I really need the open cargo space. Also, I'm not a big fan of the unibody look even though it would be so much easier. Got the cab gutted today and started messing with windows. I may start with an 80's 4runner look and use a roll bar/bikini top before going full flat bed. The '4runner look would give me a pickup-esquw functionality with the option to haul extra people. We shall see. I figure I can always cut more off, but it's tougher to put it back on.

To make it look right i think you need to close off the cab and do a separate bed. Flat bed or Maybe one off a mini truck and add the body lines. Otherwise it looks terrible.

Got a little bit done, but I haven't had a chance to load up any pictures. Maybe when I get home from work today.

I was thinking a cut down mini truck bed too. Might be kind of interesting.

my cut the rear doors open and shut

I want to post some pictures. Where the hell is the link to buy a star on here? You'd think they would make it more obvious...

*Nevermind*

"Finished" up the rear cab line with the back of the old roof. wanted to get it semi sturdy before a camping trip this weekend. I will be closing in the rear of the cab with a mostly flat wall rather than the rear pillar of the fj60 body. What do people do for windows? What did you do white lightning? I would prefer to have a flat piece of glass in there. Just make my window frame?

Mine rear is lexan polycarbonate. But glass is the go as it will not scratch as easy just make a temple of the hole you cut and make sure you make the about a 3" radius for the corners so that the rubber seal will not wrinkle. Then take the temple to a auto glass mob and they should be able to cut some laminated glass and keyed seal to suit.

The glass in the doors is just the rear door 1/4 glass moved to the front of the door. Mine was is also built on a small budget. Paint job which i did my self was the biggest cost, may be worth Monstaliner it as it will save a lot of time on the sanding body filler perfectly and primer.

I ordered a custom cut of dot approved tempered glass and use school bus window gasket to keep it in place...you should consider having the glass cut to fit the fj40/45 rear window template, the buy an aftermarket one piece gasket from Specter

you may want to do some bracing before moving it much...

I was thinking about using rear 40 glass too, but I wasn't sure if it would be wide enough. My other thought was to snag a sliding rear window from a Toyota pickup and fit it in there.

As for bracing, the thing is super sturdy with that rear section welded into the roof line. Before I welded that in I took it for a drive and the cab would kind of shake around over bumps. Nothing now. It seems much less rattly than before. Also, the thing drives incredibly well. I love it without all that extra weight in the rear.

a light arse is a double edged sword...

Yea, I can believe it. It drives totally differently. I can already imagine the rear end skidding in rainy emergency stop conditions. I think once I get the bed on there it should be ok though. I wont be driving this thing everyday either. Mostly just to haul things.
