Pulled the trans last week and discovered the front input shaft was leaking as well. Opened it up and saw a PO (not Matt in Austin) put in an aftermarket seal. Needless to say I went back with a Toyota seal there and on the rear main as well. Trans went in pretty quickly which I was glad since I was working by myself. The 60 runs and drives now, but need to do some tuning to include getting replacing the weber carb with my 2F once I get it rebuilt.

J, I tried sending FJ40Jim a pm on my laptop. The web site said I was not authorized to have a conversation with him. May have been user error, but I've never experienced this before. Any other suggestions on how I can teach Jim about my carb? Thanks.

Time for an update. I took the summer off (to hot in the shop) and focused on our stand up skis and hitting the lake. I've started some minor body work and have to do a quarter (rt rear) change. I have a good donor which is in the pics. My goal is to start painting either November or December.

Did not get the carb done. I called and emailed the guy and did not hear back. It was running fine and the bowl got clogged when I put in a used tank. Broke the gasket when I opened it up so I'm just going to order a new gasket. Running a spare weber just so I can move it around. I appreciate all the help

Pulled the donor quarter. Now working on getting the bad quarter off Frankenstein. Have to figure out how to remove the rear quarter glass. I took the stainless trim out along with the interior trim. I'm gonna do some research online and then sleep on it. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Spent the day working on the 60. Was able to get the new quarter clamped on. Still have more adjusting to do which I'll get to tomorrow. Spending a lot of time determining where to begin tacking it. Since it has flex, I'm test fitting over and over while trying to get the joint line (through the window) tight. I'll post an update once I get it welded.

Since you're already going through the PITA process of replacing those cargo area windows, if you can get your hands on a pair of sliding opening windows, I highly recommend them.

Great point. I saw some in the parts section. It's a pricy upgrade if I recall correctly. My goal has been to see how little I can spend while turning out a nice cruiser. More the challenge vs. $'s. The next high $ expenses will be buying paint and then getting the roof rack (McGuire have me the one he made) and bumpers powder coated.

Stay away from the flat style sliding cargo windows, IMO.. especially USED ones ( SOR, Perfomance Sliders..) had a set.. leaked between glass and the one that didn't leak squeeked all the damn time. To properly install the flat style sliders you have to flatten your pinch weld on the sides to get a decent fit. I researched best install practices for quite some time and finally Gary at MUDRAK explained how they do it for me... basically a 2 x 4 and a hammer.. Seems that a large % that are previously installed are installed wrong and manipulated in some way that make them a problem second install around.

If you can find the OEM curved style... ABSOLUTELY go for it, but $$$$ they will be.
