Hmm, that's interesting. I didn't realize that a 1HD-T weights that much more than a 1FZ-FE.

Christo nailed it, no surprise there. Its too high for caster plates to correct the steering geometry. Not sure what the advantage to sitting that high is anyway. Down sides far outweigh the advantages IMO.

I have a 2" IronMan kit with 30mm spacers. My handling is great. I used Slee's caster plates when I added the 30mm this fall and removed my caster bushings for new OEM at that time. I can corner as good now as stock. I have no complaints on the IronMan products after 2.5 years of wheeling and daily driving.

So I installed the new Slee 4" coil springs today. As you can see in the first two pics of the coils, the difference between the 6" Ironman and 4" Slee is a lot more then 2"

I anticipated that the front may still sit low and opted to leave the front spacer in place. Turns out the spacer it is only slightly over 1" (30mm actually). With it in place I am quite happy with the stance. The hub to fender flare measurements are as follow:

Front - was: 27.5" now: 25" Total: 2.5" drop
Rear - was: 29.5" now: 26" Total: 3.5" drop
(of course I do expect it to settle some)

I am not able to get it in for an alignment until Monday but took it for a goodtest drive to see if I could feel any change in the handling. My initial impression is a night and day difference. The truck actually wants to go straight and the steering returns to center, it does not just try to follow the ruts any more. Body roll in the corners is also considerably improved and the truck just feels a lot more stable over all.

As far as cosmetics go, I probably liked the way it looked before more then most but as you can see in the last pic, it definitely looks more proportionate now. I must admit I am pleased with the outcome. So after the wheel alignment its back to the mechanic to see if he is ready to sign off on the Out of Province Inspection? I'll be sure to post the results and some better pics

Oops forgot the pics

damn, that's a very tidy garage.

4" and 35s is all you need really.
That truck will go just about anywhere.
That set up makes suits the truck nicely.
I had a friend do the same lift with 35 sst coopers with his 81 and it's a big beast.

Sell your old ironman springs to fund some other stuff

Did you post your girlfriend's weight a few posts back?

The OP is going to get nailed one of these days for doing this. That being said, how tall is she? :)

I got the alignment done today with the new 4" slee springs. The Tech said despite some of the numbers showing in the red, the specified ranges are based on a stock vehicle and he is very happy with the results. In fact he said if the shop doing the out of province inspection has any issues with the results that he will speak to them directly. I dropped it off there tonight and should get the final stamp of approval tomorrow......

With 3 deg caster you will be fine. That is within spec for the later trucks, which specify 2-4 deg caster. Not sure why your report shows -5 to 1.75 as the spec.

I forgot to post up the final outcome  When I brought it back to the inspection facility it passed with flying colours! He was very happy after taking it for another test drive and totally impressed with the new handling characteristics. He could not find any other mechanical faults with the truck. It is a fully registered and insured Alberta resident :)

Thanks everybody for your input and advise

Looks much better, glad you got it sorted and can start driving it!
