Good lord that thing's tall! How tall is your garage door that you fit it in there with a roof rack? Must have been tight?

Door opening is 8'6" with a 10' ceiling height. The top of the roof rack measures 8' even and the roof is 7'2". So yeah its not fitting in standard 7' garage door even without the rack

I saw you driving down highway 1 last Sunday. I was on opposite side fixing a flat tire.

Pm me. I have a hdj81 with tjm 4" suspension. You're more than welcome to come take a look. Also have stock springs in my storage, you can toss em on for safety if needed.

Chris.

Its obviously a very small world or my truck sticks out like a sore thumb, lol.

Wow! That is a lot more lift then I thought it had. I figured the front had sagged and thats why he added the spacers but obviously not. I cant believe how much lift those rear coils are giving. Now that I realize how much actual lift it has I am convinced it is a castor issue and will direct my efforts in that direction.

I am thinking about ordering the slee 4" coils and going from there. Do you think the current Ironman 5* castor plates will be enough to get it back in spec with those coils? How many degrees correction are the Slee castor plates?

I'll add some pics and let you be the judge of that, lol..... A couple poser shots and one at the end of our long drive home parked beside my 1989 BJ74 with 3" lift and 33's

That much lift makes those 315's look tiny :) Would have been fun to see the alignment numbers; you were probably well into the negatives on caster

for starters, remove the front 1.5" spacers and see how your handling improves.

Ok guys its official, its coming down. Just ordered the 4" Slee coils front and back. I'll update with pics and castor results after I get reinspected. Thanks everybody for your input and the guys at Slee for the great customer service.

Although that would have been the cheapest solution it would have looked ridiculous with that stance and I am not convinced it would have helped much for the reason stated below. That much forward slope is going to affect castor IMO

The spacers are only in the front so removing them alone probably wont improve the castor much if any because it will on increase the height difference to 3 1/2" from front to back.

Best solution : buy armour from Jason. Lol. My 5 inch lift has become a low rider now lol. Speaking of, I need a better lift.

Got your pm, but I am typing on a phone....ugh. want to have a quick chat about your pm in an hour?

I was just commenting to my wife that I had seen you too!
You don't see land cruisers between Ft Macleod and Lethbridge very often!

There are some beefy anti sway bars out there, i would try that. I also suspect that having your ass up higher is affecting your castor on the front (butt up high, so your nose points down).

So maybe consider upgrading your rear bumper for weight, or even load it up with about 300-500 pounds in the back, and see if it drops and how it handles.

Could be enough for the inspection. But beefier anti sways should help keep it more stable, while castor while make it want to dart left or right on unlevel pavement.

you could also do the land tank castor brackets, I have a set of the OME yellow castor bushings in calgary if you want something short notice (i forget if you did castor correction, they're in calgary - $50)

could just remove front spacers and put 4" rear springs on it, i have slee 6" lift ,30mm spacers front,on my 91 and 37,s , looks close to same as yours hight wize, just bigger tires, great looking rig.

Nice looking Cruiser!! Looks just right to me with the 37's. What ratio did you re gear too? I also like that it doesnt have the side plastic trim and you have the rear sliding glass

How does your truck handle with that lift? Obviously you have the Slee front conrtol arms but did you also need the castor bushings? Have you had an alignment and do you have any idea what your castor is?

edit: because of the paint scheme I was thinking that was also an HDJ81 but I see in your signature its a FJ80

I have heard mixed reports about ironman quality.:wrench:

Doesn't sound like a quality issue to me. More like an installer and/or PO problem -- unless the PO had a heck of a load back there that is no longer present. If the wrong combination of parts is used on a coil-sprung vehicle, you'll get bad results no matter what the quality of the parts is. And you can't rely on suggested combinations all the time either, but must analyze and adjust for the needs of the truck in front of you.

The excessive stink-bug alone is probably the better part of this. I'd agree that you're better off lower than that unless you have a real need to travel where they have to pump oxygen up to you...:p
But if those 37+-ers are calling, then the truck needs to be set up right.

What's interesting is you could get away with driving that truck in most of the states to the south of Canada's border and no one would probably notice...:whoops:

This.

Pull the front spacers and put in rear springs. Take it thru the inspection so you can insure it. Then afterwards do whatever you like.

Pair of rear J springs is around $200. Simple solution to your problem. If nobody has them in stock and you can't wait, you can *gasp* cut your rear springs to lower the truck. Half hour job if you have a grinder with a pencil disc.

What puzzles me is that these springs produced a stinkbug that required 1.5" of spacer to correct? Are we sure that the front springs are in fact 6" coils and not 4" coils?

What is the typical stinkbug produced by a set of Slee 6" springs, if any?

As I previously mentioned I have already ordered the Slee 4" coils front and rear. I will run those until I am ready to make the financial commitment to go to 37" tires.

I am sure the front are 6" as well because remember its sitting 27 1/2" from hub to flare, when stock is around 20". I think its the additional weight of the diesel in the front and the lack of weight in the rear (HDJ81's dont even have the third row seating) is whats causing so much stinkbug.

Just for the record I weighed it at a certified government truck scale on my way home and here is what I got:

1360kg / 2992lbs front axle on the scale
1210kg / 2662lbs rear axle on the scale
2500kg / 5500lbs total both axles on the scale

*obviously the numbers dont add up so their is a margin of error
That was a completely empty vehicle with only my 125lb girlfriend in the drivers seat.
