Owned a '01 3rd, '08 4th, and currently a '18 5th gen 4Rnrs. We also have a '19 200 series...get the LC bruv. Much better vehicle...both get s*** mpgs. Get the mighty V8 before they're extinct.

In all fairness the V8 4th Gen was a special truck. I love mine to death.

A lot of people love the 4th Gens due to their uniqueness of having the V8 as an available option, but I personally find them to be the ugliest generation 4Runner. It was the shortest lived generation due to low sales which was compounded by both a weak economy and high fuel prices.

Agree, the front of 4th is ugly like hell. I always had a soft spot for 3th gen. But I like 5th looks-wise a lot.

Agreed, the third gen will always be my favorite for multiple reasons. I have high hopes for the 6th Gen but I’m afraid the top trims will be well into the 50’s if not $60K for a Pro.

Made a powerful enemy today my friend...no such thing as an ugly child.

I do love the 3rd gen as well...wouldn't mind the Fortuner brought over as the 6th gen.

Really? Fortuner doesn't offer anything extra over the t4r, at least that I can think of. To me it looks like the child of a highlander and t4r.
3rd gens have a spot with everyone, but I'd take a first gen any day over a 3rd

I was just telling my wife this exact same thing yesterday, I was speculating that the 6th Gen might just end up being a rebranded Fotuner, guess we will have to wait and see.

If Toyota is trying to cut costs...just rebadge the Fortuner since it and the 4R are so similar. Not a bad truck and just as capable. Seems to be a fan fav in the land down under. Plus it might help bridge the gap between the Hilux and Tacoma. I'd rather see the Hilux here...plus the Ranger is somewhat successful in the States.

I've been saying the same thing on the T4R forum in the 6th gen threads. Only time will tell I suppose.

Here's a lifted Fortuner...

4Runner sells largely because of how it looks. Same with Kia Telluride. Everything looks like a Highlander, including the Fortuner.

I'm also a 4R owner that's been looking at the used 200's lately, we offered $57k OTD on a 16 with 80kmiles they held at $59k.....then kept going down $200 at a time to $57.8. - Jokers, it's still sitting on their lot 3 weeks later.

We've currently have a 14 Limited 4R lifted and mild build, paid for, and just passed 100k-miles still drives like new. It's our 3rd 4R, previous 98, 2002 sport. I'm finding it super challenging to jump out of a paid for, semi-bulletproof 4R into the 200. We've also got a 14 Tundra Platinum.

Drove my buddy's 2014 LC recently, very comfortable.

Love the 200..... just not sure the extra cost is worth the trade-offs/trade-up

But even a 5th gen could be deemed ugly unless you start to mod it. Vehicles are going to that European car look to SUVs and trucks. Not necessarily a bad look but it requires socializing. Have to acclimate Americans to something new.

I understand your point but it's about looking rugged and tough. Not necessarily looking good. Just look at that front end. Compare the overall boxy shape to that of the average SUV. I think Kia sells more Tellurides than the softer styled Hyundai Palisade.

Well for me it had less to do with front end looks and more to do with solid rear axle. I'd say most people like the idea of having an offroad capable SUV. The other group like car based SUVs that look the part. Telluride, Rav4, anything Jeep, etc.

What did you like better, your V8 4th gen or SC'd 5th gen?
