5th gen 4 runner vs LC250

And remember that Toyota (Marcus Umlauff - General Manager, Truck at TMNA) said that the 250 "is really everything that truly is the essence of Land Cruiser. How do we bring it back to it's roots? How do we bring it back to what it has always been?"

Clearly the answer to those rhetorical questions are a de-featured, price-inflated, 4Runner that is also not even close to being the premier, top-shelf product offered by the brand. The LC250 sits somewhere between a 4Runner TRD-OR and the 4Runner SR5 but at the likely price tag of the TrailHunter or TRD Bro.

Agreed. This is why the GX550 or the 6th Gen 4runner Overland/TRD Pro are the only options right now. I really like the idea of the LC250 but don't remotely trust that rear end.
Agree 100%. LC is out. My next buy will be a 4Runner Trailhunter, TRD Pro, or GX550. Or maybe even a Tacoma.

It's a bit of a relief not being into serious off-roading. I'll be perfectly content with my 8.2" diff sitting on 32" highway tires.

I think you're right. I should get a new hobby. Anyone want to Duolingo duel to learn Japanese? Or maybe we can start a YT channel that critiques Land Cruisers for sale?

I am hearing the new Tacoma TRD Pro will be $65k so that means the 4RUnner TRD Pro will probably be $70k. That means the GX550 Overtrail, 4Runner TRD Pro and Land Cruiser Land Cruiser will all be around $70k. Within $5k of each other. That blows my mind. I see no reason to ever buy the LC LC. For $70k I will take the GX550 all day everyday.

It's been discussed in other threads but not this one. For apples to apples overtrail you need to compare LC P to Overtrail +, not the base. It's still not a huge difference but it's about 10k. Jury still out on what the 4runner lineup looks like.

All this hemming and hawing about different vehicles is understandable - but remember, Toyota has officially stated a few times that the new Landcruiser 250 will evolve with time.
So it may have dinky differential gearing today and the non-exciting I4 engine as well, but you can count on it that if people start breaking the diffs, Toyota will upgrade future models with the bigger gears.
Also there’s no stopping them from putting the V6 in the 250 a few years from now.
Everyone remembers that the first few years of the FJ80 got the inferior 3F-E engine carried over from the FJ62 - but then later got the all new 1FZ-FE engine and new transmission.
So a Landcruiser model can be upgraded over time and since Toyota has already mentioned that, we can count on it happening some time in the future.

What does the LC have that the Overtrail does not? Most the + stuff is not anything I really care about.
Here is what the LC250 Premium gets that the Overtrail does not.

(Plus the 2400 watt inverter, but overtrail + doesn't have that either)

In exchange on the overtrail you get:
- E-KDSS (fair, but value is unknown at this point)
- V6 (relevance depends on the buyer. Seems a lot care more than I do)
- Bigger axle (Won't matter to buyers who keep at stock height/reasonable tires)
- IMO better looks (subjective)

If you don't care about all of the stuff on the Premium package, you can drop to LC LC which is ~$62k (7k cheaper) and essentially the same vehicle. Aside from the stuff listed above.

The difference in either isn't huge, but hand-waiving $7-10k+ when trying to do a comparison doesn't help anyone. I have highlighted the Lexus brochure as well if desired but it's basically the same highlights as the above photo.

ETA: Overtrail+ is also about a $7k difference over a maxed LC250 Premium. Seems $7k is the magic Toyota/Lexus number to jump between comparable LC250s and Overtrails.

Thank YOU ! 🫂.

I will make a table at one point 😂.

One key difference for yours truly is the OT and OT+ do not have AC vents on top 2 and 3rd rows. Silly, I know.... But the LC/LC has them.

KDSS is a big thing for regular driving when I am taking those corners like Prost... 😂

A chart would probably be better. The two references documents I have don't compare apples to apples so it's a bit confusing trying to do a correct comparison.

Yeah. Chart. Table. That's what I meant. 😂. I will try during the weekend to make one.

I'm off work today so I'm using my powers for this effort. I think I captured most of the specs that matter. Anything that was the same across all platforms I left out. I'll add weight and payload once we get real weight numbers for the 250.

Important to note that a lot of the tech stuff can be added as options on the Overtrail. I did the comparison using the base model of all of the above trims with no additional options.

I'd list the digital key and TJA as optional for the OT+

Also I think the LCP still requires a subscription for TJA? I recall it just saying "capable" rather than a standard inclusion.

Lastly, I know the vent situation is weird in the OT/OT+ but does it not include 3zone that's still controlled from the driver seat?

I could have listed a lot as optional. I could change that. I went back and forth on whether or not to list it.

I think you may be right on TJA. My reference doc I posted above has it listed but it just says "capable" so maybe that's what they mean.

My reference for the climate zones was a youtube video. If what you're saying is the case ill change it.

EDIT: I updated the optional equipment and an accurate TJA reference. According to some quick google-fu 3 zone climate control only comes on 3 row models for the GX

The whole 3zone/overhead vent item with the Overtrail baffles me frankly. Not a critical item for some folks but with my kids and dogs I use the 4-zone controls in my 200 and the 3-zone in my 100 ALL the time.

Huge miss by Lexus.

There was some talk a while back that the LC 250 was getting suspension seats. These are seat brackets that move up & down several inches with a spring & shock suspension. Super comfortable and back saving when driving on bumpy dirt roads.
Toyota made suspension seat brackets for their non-USA HJ61 Landcruisers back in the 80’s and I snagged a used pair (back in the 80’s) and they are simply awesome off road. The best offroad upgrade ever.

Are suspension seats available as an upgrade for any model of the LC 250?
