Here is a picture of the steam vent collector from JTR/sleath conversion. It also servers as an adapter for the stock Toyota radiator to chevy Siliverado hose. Yes the is was pricey but you get a sight window and an air bleed valve for roping off the coolant.

What sizes are on each end of the adapter? Do you have a part # for the Silverado hose?

Check out the great adapter they have for the coolant system and the VSS. Check out the picture below. Here is a steam vent with a sight glass. Great for checking fluid level.

Picture here above is the VSS. Just like the Downey VSS. Bolt right up to the transfer case. I had zero problems with mine for the last year of operation.

Has anyone had any experience with Tilden Motorsports? They offer a very attractive sounding vortec motor but don't list details about specific engines (mileage, year, etc) straight on the website. I cant find any reviews of the company anywhere, although @FJ60Cam mentions in his great build that he got his professional looking harness from Pacific Fabricators who also carry Tilden Motorsport engines. My other option is going through BD Turnkey as I'm not feeling real comfortable with ebay motors to be honest.

Positive and negative recommendations are greatly appreciated.

No experience with either, as far as the engines, but I've only heard good reviews about BD. My only experience with Pacific Fabrication has been the harness. If you are ok with either's prices, then I'd get one from either.

Pros: you are paying for a known quantity that has been checked out, with the trimmed harness and flashed computer.

The only con is that you are paying a premium for this service (maybe not though, once you factor in the harness.)

The guy I got mine from sold 100K 5.3/4L60E combo's in the $2000-2300 range. That was for a complete take-out with harness, pedal (too big though), computers (need to be reflashed) and all the engine accessories.

You are basically trading a transmission for a new harness and re-flashed computer. Not necessarily a bad trade since you don't need the auto.

Call Kevin (the owner) at Pacific Fabrication. He was helpful on the phone. He might could give you more info on motor mileage and what it came out of.

Cool. That's what I'll do once I have my upper radiator hose sorted out. I've seen a NAPA 8991 hose used, but I want to make sure I can stretch it on to the Toyota neck.

I'm going with an auto transmission, and the VSS is already incorporated into the Advance Adapter.

Sorry for the stray off topic, but Elbert, you wouldn't have that part # for the lower rad. hose, from Napa, would you. I got a 5.3 from BD engines and getting close ( closer anyway) to starting it.

Spend the money and get yourself a good radiator. I use Griffin Radiator, they already have a direct fit 60 series rad and I have them swap the filler neck and top hose location and add a steam port. I also have them use the correct hose size tube top and bottom as well. Also has trans cooler built in for the auto trans.

You are more than doubling the HP and with each extra HP comes more heat, do not cripple yourself by using a 20 plus year old radiator that is not up to the job. Some will tell you that the stock radiator is fine, they'll tell you the same about stock fuel lines. Do what you will as this is only my OPINION.

All great points NCFJ! A wise move for a 20 year old radiator, thankfully mine is a 6 month old 4 core from CSF *whew*, I will certainly take it out for a nice cleaning regardless.

Got a part number for this radiator? Any pics?

ON BUYING A VORTEC

Another opinion on sourcing engine(s). I have / will have three GM V8s in Cruisers - an FJ62 (two motors) and a BJ73 (currently in conversion). The motors were a 5.7 liter Gen II engine (take-out by prior owner), a 5.3 liter Gen III (L33 aluminum HO take-out) and a new GM crate motor (LC9/eRod with 4L65E tranny).

1- I have personally observed two salvage yard take-outs that experienced "fails" following installation. Would not go that way, even if 'guaranteed" due to time, effort and/or expense in pulling out the bad motor and replacing with second used unit.

2 - I purchased a pre-screened motor from Brian at BD Turnkey, with clean-up, run-in test, ECM flash, harness, pallet and shipping. Paid a little more (not that much) for a clean motor ready to drop in. I would do it again - great little motor with only 79,000 miles. Brian has his xxxx together, gives great service, but if you check his site, good motors are hard to find - especially 6.0s.

3 - When planning the BJ73 re-motor, I looked hard at the Gen III market for used and remanufactured motors. Used stock with good histories, low miles, etc. are getting pretty expensive. Reman crate motors not cheap either - while the LC9/eRod is simple, turn-key and carries a 24 month GM warranty. Aluminum block, 326 hp, etc., etc. And if you have smog to deal with, can easily pass California inspection. Here's a video on a eRod motor in a California 60, installed by Torfab last year.

Just my two cents....

I do have the pn...but its a at home and I will not be back until end of the month. I have a two inch body lift and when we did that we had to hunt for another hose as the original one would not work. I don't have the pn for the hose I used originally at the lower connection with the radiator in the stock location. We basically lowered the radiator two inches to align with engine.

Part number on the invoice is # 9D-29616-02

If you call, ask for Michele Morgan and tell her you want the LS version (her term) same as specs on order for HFS on invoice # 177970 I assume that they retain the drawings.

Do you run an aux. trans cooler as well as the built-in? What about power steering? Stock tube, aux, or both?
