juuuuust for the sake of argument, and do not get your hopes up as work is really busy these days. How would someone (I) make it back from the Rubicon to a flight out of San Fran on say Fri/Sat?

aaaannnnddd...what would one do about camping gear?

aaaannnnddd... what would one do with the wife who refuses to fly home on the (already booked) flight on Monday the 8th. At the going rate of $200/night I can't afford to put her up another week in a San Fran hotel, not to mention the damage shes likely do all by herself in the city...$$$$.

So lemme guess, SHE wants you to stay longer having your fun so that SHE can stay longer and have her fun? Haha. Understandable though I guess. Not real sure what to tell you about what to do with the wife; at least not anything legal! Hahahaha. I'll mull it over and see what comes to mind though; gotta be something/somewhere that won't cost a fortune.

Ideally, I think changing your fight from SF to Tahoe would work best; that's only considering YOU being in eastern Cali though, not having the wife still in SF awaiting your return. If you do have to get back for a flight out of SF still, I'd say let's start asking around on Mud and Marlin forums for anyone going that way that could let you ride. We'll ask if someone can MUDSHIP you. Maybe Josh has peeps that can be of assistance in some way?

I should have plenty of camping gear to be able to pack for two. Shouldn't need much extra besides sleeping bag and air mattress. I have a new 4-man tent that's probably similar in size to yours so plenty of room there. I have not planned anything IRT food yet so that'd have to be gone over a ways in advance to determine any extra cooking gear that I might not normally bring.

Send Linda home after the wedding and you can use my Tundra to get you back to the airport/Bart. If that doesn't work I will see what I can talk Michele into and maybe Linda can hang out at my house when we are at Rubicon. The problem with staying at our place is we will be there Monday night along with my mom and dad so there isn't much room that night. The rest of the week no one will be there.

I got you covered on camping stuff so call me if you are really serious about coming.

Here's the solution to the previous pictures of the beat up spring perches:

It's basically the same thing Ted recently did to the back of his crawler. The perches being beyond repair was only part of why I did this though; I will try to upload some pics of the U-bolts and it'll make even more sense.

Here's what I did today after I finished getting the front axle back under the truck:
Mud flaps for the upcoming trip to Cali.

They slide in from the inside to tuck neatly underneath the bed while not in use.

You tell your wife she has to go home half way through a vacation and let me know how well that goes. Appreciate the offer, It's only half serious as there are still a number of challenges to work out both here and there but the possibilities are improving.

Washed the Gecko today... and I mean ACTUALLY washed! I don't remember the last time I did anything more than pressure washed it, which really makes me wonder if maybe I never have. Probably haven't since, until I moved to the PNW, there was never enough time between wheeling trips to do that. :flipoff2:

Ironically enough Nick, that actually DID happen, just not on this particular washdown of the main part of the truck. Last week while I had the front axle out for my U-bolt elimination mod, it happened to the axle.

I've known for about a year now that there was a tiny hole in the top of the housing that must've occurred when the hydro ram bracket was welded on. I've looked for it both inside and outside on the housing - knowing for sure it was there somewhere - yet couldn't find it. It was never a bad leak and actually has never been an issue. I just always worry about water getting in while fording deep streams. So anyway, when I cleaned up the axle real good and took it to the local 4x4 shop to finish welding on my new spring perches, they had it upside down on the stands to weld and it started DUMPING gear oil out that hole. Apparently the caked up mud/oil mixture from the last few years was a pretty decent "mortar". In the end we were able to get a small welding nozzle down inside the two sides of the hydro bracket and get the area covered up.

The squirt has a leaky spring perch.... who woulda thought the squirt would've ever have had anything in common with the Gecko

Same issue; Burned through it while welding?

I am guessing so. The rear tube has a nasty bugger weld in/on it that I noticed when we were rebuilding it. Whoever did the SOA burned thru it and then did a poor job fixing it. I found out when we stopped on a off camber section on 1 at GMP and saw oil running out from under the DS rear tire.

My motorized fleet in front of the shop today.

Two of my three trailers and a recently acquired dirt bike are out of view in the shop.

Cut about 1.5" off the front end of the sliders. Ever since putting the new SX's up front, they've grabbed the sliders pretty hard when the rear of the tire is turned into the wheel well and is stuffed from flexing up.

Good feeling seeing a bunch of Jeep guys escorting me to obstacles they want to see me try... and I made every one of them! Got a lot of "no way he'll make that.... Holy crap, he made it!"
