David-

Just got back last night from racing the first leg of the 500 and thought I'd find out how you guys did. When we saw Cain at the start they seemed to be having fuel pump problems. Did you guys get it going?

Here's a few pics of the final look...

We got the fuel problems hammered out but DNF'd because of 2 bent driverside knuckles. It was a blast while it lasted and the joy of changing a knuckle at pit one will not soon be forgotten. Did I mention that we didn't have one in the spares either. Thanks to the guys from Simmons race team for sacrificing their brand new 2k7 Tacoma for our race efforts!

I am toying with running an FZJ in the Baja...not to win, just to say I did it :)

Do it! Its a great experience and all you need is a VISA with lots of room. :D

I saw some guys in a H1 attempt it several years ago...team name was "Yuppie scum racing"...although they didnt finish.

I would save up and pay cash.

I think I would try to get Starbucks to sponsor me...only seems appropriate if I do it in an 80 or 100 series :)

WHAT A RACE.

What an experience.

The team, the CREW, everyone kicked ass. The truck was solid as hell except and only except for those knuckles/spindles. Beefed up or otherwise and it rocks the whole way. What really sucked is that Chris and Scott never got to drive, even now it makes me feel like s***e for their sakes. We all learned a lot, to use an absurd understatement!

Photos to come.

Bman-

Did it turn out to be the fuel pump? Yeah, the course was pretty brutal. We did the first 120 miles without too much trouble but engine issues forced us out about 1/2 way.

What's the plan for that FJ? Are you guys going to run the 1000?

Sorry about the LATE response on this one. Totally forgot about this thread. The fuel problems we had were due to poor routing of the vent line on the fuel cell. It kept kinking and basically locking up the fuel system due to a vaccume of sorts. A splint was fashioned at pit 1 solving this problem but bent spindles ended our race. Read the next couple issues of 4WDTO for the whole rundown. What's not printed there I'll post here. It was a great adventure to say the least. Probably won't be at the 1k this year but hoping at least for the 250 and the 500 again next year.

Hey David,
Was it you driving the FJ west on the 210 freeway last night (July 11) at around 7:00pm. If so, nice vehicle, my wife and I are impressed.

The rig now is sporting a silver skin (advertisement wrap) over the blue paint with the sponsors.

Looks pretty cool, and you can see it in the new July/August issue of David's magazine.
