Was just wondering what kind of luck everyone has had with running the 4cyl third member/carrier in there sas trucks/runners with the 3.slow. The reason I am asking is I am ready to order gears and lockers and noticed marlin crawler has the pre-built thirds for a decent price but my delema is I want something strong but I dont know if I want to spend the extra 400 buck for a v6 carrier vs the 4cyl carrier.
Any thoughts?

You would probably be fine running a 4cyl diff behind a 3.0L though I don't know why you would need to. I have run 4cyl diffs behind a supercharged 3.4l without problems (though only temporarily). You should have a V6 diff in there already and you could set it up with a new set of gears and a locker and be good to go. Or you could buy a used V6 diff for a reasonable price and have it set up. I cant say I understand the reason for the very significant increase in cost between the V6 and 4cyl diffs.
If you need I have an extra V6 diff sitting around and I could even help you get it set up if your interested.

What gearing do you need? 4.10, 4.56, and 4.88 stock gears can be found in boneyard V6 rear diffs. If it's one of these, and you don't need the locker, just go boneyard shopping.

Need 4.88s and I definatly want to do the locker, but I also want new. I dont see the point in puting in used gears and bearings when I will have a completely rebuilt front axle. Thats why I was thinking about going with the pre-built from marlin.
I was figuring after spending 150-200 for gears, another 150 or so for the install kit, and then roughly 300 for the a lockright I might as well spend the extra 100 or so for an assembled unit with the brand new housing and carrier. Then I could build myself a extra third in my spare time from the one thats in the axle now. But I still am wondering if the 4cyl carrier will hold up to the v6?
