since I know you folks are awaiting updates with bated breath...( or is it baited?)

I gots two whoppers.

Finally stuck in some new batteries, had to widen the trays slightly to make them fit, but when they're 60 bucks a pop instead of 110, I can handle that. made little holder downers too..

( discount battery on cliff st in nanaimo)

also noticed my rear drive shaft was worn out in every way...both ujoints, and the slipyoke were all rattly...and just in case you ever doubted the Majesty of the Goat Barn...lookee what I found in there...:grinpimp: (think that might be some crusty handwriting...)

and yes , I did in fact point this out to swmbo, as an example of why I haven't thrown anything away since 1987...:hillbilly:

wow, a bit of bling there eh?

Mo' betta.

to say these roll a bit smoother would be just a wee bit of an understatement...I initially made metaphors involving warm tropical beaches vs non consentual prison sodomy that I was asked not to repeat....

kinda funny tho, same rims I had on the old crackwhore, then on the 45, then on the 70...and once again, I had to go to surrey to get them, history is repeating itself, tho I'm not going to turn this one into a 45 then get pissed off at it.

Tires themselves aren't s*** hot, still going to buy some new ones, but at least I can drive the damn thing while I snoop around for a deal. 255/85/16's

Guy I bought them off is building a very cool 45, shortened bed, extended cab...real fxxxin' big tires...

also started on some sorta rear bumper beefup.

picked up a pintle hitch yesterday so I can actually do something with my m101, and figgered I should beef up the rear crossmember before bolting it on.

I have a vague plan in mind to trim the bumperettes, cap them with some plate so they're steps instead of dog leg breakers...but we'll see what I come up with when I start cutting tomorrow.

Geeze Ryan, that looks a little light duty, should use 3/4 next time!:hillbilly:

Too funny! Ohhh the irony!!! At least you have a spare kicking around behind the "lean-to"(or half a set)... and besides you can run those for another 10 years and they won't wear one bit. haha...
What did you decide on for rubber???

yeah I know...tell me again why I wanted a 45? :bang::lol:

gonna use that other michelin I got from you as a spare, I picked up a 16x6 trailer rim so I can mount it(they actually fit pretty well)

I got rid of those spare bfg's I had last week, were all old and cracked from being stored for 8 years...

as for new rubber, near as I can tell, there's a few choices in that size, bfg's, toyo open country, m55's, and cooper st...(truxus aint on my list...)

I wouldn't be totally against getting 235's, still taller than the 32's I had, probably more brands available, but I'll try for 255's first, I wouldn't mind a little more overdrive, what with having a 4 speed...:hillbilly:

going to get the spare mounted today at the place next door and see what they can get. won't buy anything till I talk to the cedar guy tho, he was cheapest for sure.

I can definitely say that the bfg km2's are far far quieter on the road then my old bfg's which is kind of nice... I'll let you know more after I've tried them on the trail...

yeah, they're actually top of the list right now.

got some prices from the guys close to me,

M55's-$285
Bfg Mud- $275
Toyo Mud- $325 (yeeeeeeowch)
Cooper S/T- $260

All ten ply except for the coopers, which are 6 or 8 forget which and more of an A/T. Not that I'm stressing about that too much. but if I get an at, the m55's probably the best one out there.

but yeah, haven't called cedar yet.

think that's all that come in the 255's.

got the hitch thing pretty much done...seems I'm dealin with hitches two weekends in a row, a bit less drinking involved in this one tho...:lol:

here it is mostly done, might cut those long diagonals off, had originally thought I'd weld it on, but decided for bolts. it'll wait till I figger out what I'm going to do to the bumperettes first...

can also see the blingin trailer rim.

bum looks a little less naked now, in the gratuitous driveway shot, cuz gratuitous driveway shots is what it's all about...:hillbilly:

IMG_3689.jpg

and hey dan, did you use a tube when you mounted your michelins? dude at the tire shop said it called for one but put it on anyways...pretty sure the two on my trailer don't have tubes in em either...they seem to hold air fine...think I'll probably just forget about it...:hillbilly:

God knows we'll never see a gratuitous wheeling shot...

yeah , you're probably right, I'm a pansy...

this thing will actually be wheelable soon, in the pansy sorta way I occasionally wheel from year to year, but I ain't following you and Abel, you guys scare the crap outta me...:flipoff2:

Oh we'll get it out to rub the rain gutters and bend the bumper a little...

couple new things.

redid the exhaust manifold gasket and donut, turns out they're pretty cheap from toyota, provided the snot nosed kid who says "ummm" and sniffs into the receiver 437 times during the 15 minutes you're on the phone with him actually orders the ******* things...

On the bright side, when I called in the next day to see if they were there, his boss was pleased to hear that not only had they not been ordered, but would've been wrong if they had... it's so much fun to spread joy into the workplace...

no pics of that cuz it was mundane and dull. I became wet, dirty and bloodied during the process.

just for cam, a pic of the shoes

IMG_3695.jpg

and if you've ever contemplated seat covers, these "trailgear" ones from Cabelas are awesome. Had them on my 70, lasted really well.

25 bucks a piece in the states, ( sale price, but they always seem to be on sale ) I think they're 35cdn from the alberta store, but I got free delivery on the weekend...

reasonably heavy cordura so they're mostly waterproof, and about 10 times the quality of the crap you can buy for twice the price around here.

I give them my Official Stain of Approval.

That thing looks half-assed respectable! I was thinking it might be uglier from the way you talk about it! What did you do with the 255 BFGs that you had before the Toyos?
