This is just me but I like the carpet.
How much wiring are you actually doing? If you run it under the removable door strips there will be two very small edges of the carpet that will have to be lifted up and it should be pretty easy to glue down. I have all of my sub wiring run through there (power remote line monster cable) and all is completely hidden under those to plastic strips.

1) Kevin (Wagongear) is helping me swap my panels (no seatbelt) for those that do use seatbelts. As usual, Kevin is a GREAT guy.

2) Doing a lot of wiring. All new speakers and speaker wire, amps, having to reroute the rear heater switch to the dash. Putting in CB remote module, etc. All of this involves not only running cables in side channels near the doors, but back to the rear speaker locations. For those, they carpeted the wheel arches. I can't get under the carpet. Pulling that off damages the rear carpet (they are glued together).

To get to the dash from the heater unit requires removal of the front carpet (which is glued to the middle, etc.) It's all glued to each other.

So yeah. I could get to the strips on the side, but can't get it past the rear door sill. Nor could I reroute the heater switch, or the remote CB. Plus, where would I put the Amp (which is going under the passenger seat. I'd have to run that wire over the carpet from the door sill.

All in all it's just easier to revert to a factory carpet. In the grand scheme of things, it won't cost much but will be much more flexible in the future (which is what I want/need).

Oh, and I just intend to paint the rear wheel wells to match the Wagongear panels. The key will be to source the trim pieces to cover the rear belts.

Here we are as of tonight. All pulled apart and ready for new goodies to go in.

While taking the dash apart, I think I decided I need a new:
1) heater/ac control
2) the automatic surround (part w/ the PRNDL etc).
(both still shown in the 2nd pic)

Both are WORN. Anyone know the part numbers or have any very good + ones they're willing to part with? Otherwise will talk to CruiserDan.

I have the interior in my garage. Feels funny...

More updates by Sunday (hopefully)

If any 62 owners have swapped out their bulbs with LEDs, please look at the LED thread and respond to my post. I put up pics of all the bulbs I could find, and I know many bulbs to order, but I'd like to be positive and order only once.

thx

Robert

Ok. Lots of parts came in this week. Got the LED bulbs in (will take a night time pic this weekend). Only 1 didn't fit at all. It's the rear defrost switch. It uses a funny sized light. I'll update my chart and post here and on the LED thread when I'm totally done. Two bulbs need to have the opening filed a little. One was a little long (the A/C bulb) but fit anyway.

Also got the CB antenna installed (Wagongear). Ran the line into the cabin, but have not hooked up the rest.

You can see I'm using the device Kevin says is unreliable, but allows for CB and Am/FM from the same antenna. I'm going to give it a go anyway.

Got the stereo installed (head unit only). Buttoned everything back up. (Notice the portion at the bottom where the ash tray is is missing? It's at 12voltguy.com having a custom panel made).

But all the cables are run. I need to install the actual speakers in the doors. But the rears will wait until I get the new seatbelts installed and new Wagongear panels that work with seatbelts. Also, until the carpet is redone, I don't want to hook up the amp. So cables are run, but not connected.
These all under the passenger seat.

Tomorrow I'm rewiring the rear heater switch so I can relocate it to where the antenna switch was (now that I have no motorized antenna there is no need for that switch). I'm also going to work on some brackets and try to mount my front speakers.

That has got to be one of the most perfect looking and color matched restorations I have ever seen. SCREW buying a new truck :)

Who did this restoration and how much did it cost if you don't mind me asking?

Are those seats from another vehicle and if so, what make/model?

He literally lists all of that information in the first and seventh post dang.

I swapped out my auto for a 5 speed...you can have my auto shifter (PRNDL) piece if you want....its grey

I have not had any issues with my Matchmaker after replacing my initial unit. They were having manufacturing issues with the center pin having no continuity, but last I heard they were implementing a new test that identified that issue prior to shipping. I love mine.

Are you having a custom panel made for that slot for e-lockers?

John - can you send me pics of your PRNDL piece? (my email address is in my profile).

Johnny - 12voltguy is replacing my ashtray with his winch controller. This is his first FJ62 panel. He should be offering them shortly on his site. I'll upload pics when it's in. I should have it by Friday. The spot just above the ash tray will be for my dual lockers (when I get them down the road).

A few weekend updates. Got the CB antenna wired in. Installed the front speakers. Mounted all my lights:

Waiting on the panel from 12volt guy. That should arrive Monday and will install that mid-week.

That leaves all the wiring for the lights, amp, and cb to do next weekend. Then all that remains is installing rear seatbelts and panels from wagongear and getting new carpet installed!

For additional detail, I've directly bolted the fogs to the ARB. Drilled two holes and bought longer 3/8" bolts than came with the IPFs and bolted them up.

For the rear, just drilled a hole in the upright for the ARB roof rack.

How long is does your birthday last, cause the goodies just keep on comin!! ;p

There is some serious coin tied up in that rig, but oh what a rig it is!

Congrats

I want to see that light bar lit up. I want to see how bright it is.
