Rezarf, I'm not sure what that part is for. It's so hard to open and close the gate, so it's main use right now is to act as a handle so I can get good leverage. I'm thinking of mounting my Hilift jack to it though.
HawkDriver, I actually just got orders to Pearl Harbor. I'll be heading over there in December and the Cruiser will be there waiting for me. Can't wait.

Mike-

After looking at your rack a bit more it looks like a gas/jerry can carrier. I think I see a small lip at the outside bottome edge of the rack. I bet that holds a gas can against the rest of the rack and presto... gas can rack.

I just saw the sexwax sticker and thought it might be used for surfboard transport.

Thanks for doing what you are doing! You make us proud!

Ahhh. I'll have to check it out. Thanks Rezarf.

Lone Gunman, I actually just transfered from Bangor. ha ha. I'll hopefully be back after Hawaii though. I'll be in touch in 3 years. Thanks a lot for the offer.

Genius. :D Good eye. ;)

Hawk-

Are you going to go dual hinges? You showed your cooler you might mount up, are you thinking of adding another pivot? I know you wanted to keep your other side openeable... if that is a word.

Rezarf <><

As of now, just one hinge. If that doesn't workout, or is too much of a load then the next one I build will be dual hinged. Dual hinges was the original plan but I just wanted to try my luck with the KISS principal.

I think it'll hold up without really any flex.

It's at the sandblaster now and I'll be installing it here shortly. IOW this one won't be modded any further, it's done.

:bounce:

Rear Bumper

Nice job!
I was wondering why you did not reinforce the area you cut out for the tail light housing? It would also offer far more protection.

Well the guy I have blast stuff just recommended a PC guy that he says is fairly cheap. Unfortunately it's a 25 mile trip just to his place, so that's about 100 miles for the 2 round trips.

And the PC guy is about twice that. I'll have to make up a batch of products to take to him all at once.

Sooooooo... anyhow I picked it up tonight along with my engine parts and it's all sitting in the garage painted and drying. Looks pretty slick even with just the rattle can stuff. I just have too many things going on right now and need this done, so I might even blast it later and PC it over.

H on, I'll go get a pic.

Looks really good Hawk, now get it all mounted up and give us some more pics man! :D

Would you do me a favor, I am away from my cruiser on business, could you measure the spindle for the hinge, I need a new collar, lost mine on the way to Moab, and need to order a new one from Mcmaster, could you throw a caliper on in for me?

Thanks man, looks great.

Thanks Rezarf,

The spindle pin is 1.5" and the tube is 2" OD, not sure bout the ID. Hope it helps. Call Lance and get the part #, I bet he has it real handy.

I'll get it mounted ASAP. Had to help out a friend setup a rear end tonight otherwise it woulda been done.

yeah this thing looks sweet and sturdy. i bet there are going to be alot of people wanting one. good luck with the final steps

Um yeah, it took the back burner for a couple other builds and right now I'm working on the engine. Hope to stick it tonight. Once the engine's running I'll need taillights again so the bumper will be next. Prolly mounted by early next week.

I wish I could spare the time to build a few more but with the deployment coming up there's just no time.

Upon my return, winter 2007, I plan to push a few out to anyone interested.

Thanks.

Finally got it installed and snapped a couple shots. I need to relocate my plate to the stock door holder. I hate to say it but it's still not complete. I'm gonna have to pull it off again and add the clevis mounts and I'm gonna cut and weld in a receiver tube. Later.

The ends had too much flex without the supports so I added 3/8" plates top and bottom which basically sandwich the existing channel. Now when I have it open and sit my ass on it it doesn't even budge. I did it on both sides because I didn't want to hit a rock on the other corner and risk completely bending the end in. The lower plates hang down a bit more than I would have liked but they're not too noticeable. next time I'll prolly use angle iron welded to the back.

Anyways there it is finally.
