Mitchell labor guide has remove and replace the headers and intake on a fj40 at 4.2 hrs. A shop that is $100 an hour has it at $400..... yeah not going to ask them that. Probably going to go with $100, split the original $200 even and call it square

So just for curious minds..... how much longer is a h55f to a h42 4 speed? If one was to put a toy box (+6.5 inches) with the h55f and split case in a fj40, how much stretch would one need?

It’s another 4-5 inches. I have a H42 with a spacer I can measure later.

Better question, where did you find a toybox? Those things are like hens teeth.

Follow-up, why do you need a toybox? H55, maybe if your driving it a lot, but can't see a need for a toybox, besides, doesnt lee majors already have an Orion?

It was 2:44 AM. He was dreaming of entering King of the Hammers next year, but he doesn’t have a tow rig & trailer yet, hence the H55 and doubling down on the crawler gears.

Haha thanks. Trying to do some bar napkin engineering over here last night.

I was thinking the 5th gear would help driving the 40 on the street. It has an Orion, but the Orion doesn’t work with the h55. The other option is sumo low range gears for a split case but those reduce your Hugh range by 10% and would kill the overdrive lol

While I know I will come off sounding like a ex husband discussing his former wife's new found sex life.

You need to wheel Lee at Crawl. With the Orion and the new ARB in the front and Detroit (Rock City) in the rear you wont need a Crawl box. @jrob has a toybox and my limits to following him on the worst 5 rated trails were my lack of auto transmission, beefy axles and my skill level (small balls).

Aquire some spare driveshafts.

Get Lee in the rocks. be easy with that skinny pedal.

Hahaha I need to just come to terms that 62 at 3k mph is what it’s going to stay at on the high way, it seems like every other option to get overdrive requires me to lose something. Or is $$$$ to get back to what I have now

That the most tech Tollison has ever dropped, I’m so proud!!!

This may come off wrong, (and its taken me a while to get here myself) but quit overthinking things. Lee is what he is and is already a great dual purpose rig. I don't care what folks try, a 40 is not meant to be a highway hauler, it is meant to cruise and enjoy the scenery. Hell I do good to roll 55 in mine and even then I'm usually white knuckled. Leave 10 minutes earlier and just cruise. If you wanna run 60+, take something made after 1990 with a top, doors and AC.

Yeah I can see that. Lee Majors actually drives really really really well at 62 mph to be honest

Put them 40” meats back on it and you can drop those RPMs.

But then you won’t be able to stop

Or turn

Or not snap axles......

Hahaha it’s a give and take with the 40s I guess

New billy's went on up front this afternoon. I need to get a set for the rear and get the ka-nuckles rebuild. Got a little drippy drip on the drivers side.

Don’t you have a pig to prep for the Swine Soirée?

Issue: front brakes are very weak. Truck has rear disc conversion and the rears will lock up on a hard stop. Fronts dont feel like they are pushing at all. Jacked up each side and spun tire by hand. Had Erin press peddle, I could still turn the tire even with peddle pushed in. Tried with truck running and off, same result.

Question: is this the master going bad? Since rears still work, I'm guessing the booster is good, and if it was calipers, id say one side or the other, but not both.

Thoughts? Thanks

I did a peddle pump bleed on the front circuit today, but I will put the power bleeder on it tomorrow?
