You are welcome to try out this one I got from Georgia

Mine is running strong. Another will come up if I need it
thanks! may take you up on that. trying to figure out if this is the block or head.
Will get some details from the machinist to see if he could have missed something

My guess is cracked coolant passage or leaking around the plugs in the water jackets.

My buddy (local) is offering a 2H. He has everything needed. Engine mounts are same for a 2F. If the head is cracked and it's not something simple like the freeze plug, I am going to try to recoup my $400 head and valve job. Part out the rest of engine carb, dissy, etc... and bolt up a 2H.

@beno thoughts on 2H parts availability and how good of an engine is the 2H?

Why not just source a head and have it worked. I'd definitely ask the guy that did the head on it now to take another look at it. Maybe he will warrantee it??

Oil cooler started in California models in late 78 but not in production until 79, from things I've read.

Buddy of mine said the head bolt locations in the block can crack and push coolant up that way. Anyone else seen this? It would explain why the machinist didn't see any cracks in the head.
Hopefully I can talk to him this week.

Also, anyone know if you can easily put a later FJ60 2F with the different style valve cover in a FJ40? Carbs and dissy interchangeable?

Tollesons 40 has a 2F out of a 60 in it. Works fine

Never heard of the block cracking.

A 2F from a FJ60 will bolt right up. In my FJ40 I have an '85 2F block with oil cooler, later dizzy, '77 head, '85 valve cover, '77 carb.

Lee Majors has a 2f out of a 82 60...

F'ing Braswell is wringing his hands over me offering the 2F I got for what I have in it. He must be suspicious that I would be so generous. He will probably low ball me and expect me to meet him 1/2 way too or something........

I am always suspicious of midgets.:hillbilly::moon::moon:

Since I would have flat top pistons now, this got me thinking about 2FE.

Rob, you know how to do this job?

Keep it simple and stick with the 2F. To do a 2FE you will need a 3FE head, intake and exhaust manifold, MAF, computer, a bunch of wires that plug into a bunch of sensors, electric fuel pump, throttle cable instead of rods,

and someone who can fab up parts that are not just plug-n-play.

I'm sure I've left off a few little items.

I've been working on a 2FE conversion for my 60 for about 3 years now (it's kinda dragging along:lol:). I started with an entire stock FJ62 for parts but the conversion is going into another 60 series. Even with this there are mods to be done, more so for a 40.

But on the tbi conversion I suggest having the correct computer (1994) that can be reprogrammed with a chip for tuning purposes. I've never seen one run just quite right. It seems there is always a glitch somewhere because they use a one size fits all approach.
