Have done lots of things working on the 40 that I enjoyed. Have a feeling this isn't gonna be one of them...
I do think this is the right path to take tho. Manifold just below the carb had gas standing in it.

no prob they are a simple carb
make sure ya write down the location of the jets air jets & an emulsion tubes the can be different in each barrel
if ya didn`t get a brass float can set the old pos a little lower later on you can change it just by removing the top again there is enough room to do it

this right here is worth getting EFI IMHO. I hate puzzles!
Guys I'm headed to FLA on Wed, and will be driving right through Jackson. Any chance this Myron fella would let me drop the carb and rebuild kit off with him?

I am very leary of an engine swap....it could be a basket case....I see 350 swaps all the time but I know conventional wisdom says that only a fourth of them are done right....so when do you take the risk?

I have been for 2 months! that is the first stockish looking truck under $6k I have seen period.
I think I am where Andy (saint) was with being right in that price range of basket cases that have been modified but not done right.....
