I don't even think this thing is worth parting out..... all I see everywhere is THICK bondo and nasty rust holes. I am not undertaking that kind of build again unless I can purchase a complete new cab..... I'll just take it to the shop and let it sit a few years. Maybe the bug will bite me again, but from now, I have enough projects to finish and keep me entertained for a long while. This bunker will have to wait. Maybe one of my sons will mess with it . Imessed with enough rust and aggravation for 3 lifetimes. I am finishing this project, my Camaro ,my son's 73 series and more. Enough for now.Get your checkbook out! Agreed, I would have gladly done so if there was some sort of demand for those parts here. 40 series are very rare here they were all over the place years (decades) ago but not many are into restoring old cars.... so, selling it by parts is probably a long shot. I'll think about all that later. No but there may be some money in all the parts. Little things like thermostat housings, brackets, drivetrain, control rods/cables, if gears/axles good, tcase good, steering then overall might be worth just disassembling completely, dump the scrap and stock the good parts.
I’ll stick my nose in where it may not belong….The unit itself , as you can see is too tall to fit the back of this truck. The solution will be to take off about 2" from the vertical posts .
The attachments to the body also have a bit of a concave shaped up to the rounded shape of the 80 series rear end. Those will be remade with heavy gauge sheetmetal and the corner of the truck's bed will be reinforced to prevent the weight of the spare +wheel combo from tearing up the sheet metal and ruining the paint.
Seems easy enough to accomplish. A least in my head it does.We should be able to do it today...... might even try to install those tailgate latches at the same time.

Would you consider going to the bumper instead of the body? You could still use the carrier tire bracket. I just have concerns about a big tire on these bodies. It will need reinforced to the other side, and I’ve seen some go to the bumper on that, and then you have different types of movement between a frame mounted latch side and a body mounted hinge side, which doesn’t seem good to me.
Also, sometimes it’s easier to start from scratch on my experience.
I’m sure you know what your doing, just wanted to share my t
I thought about what you said when I decided to use that spare tire carrier. When I read your comment this morning, I said to myself that it was probably best that I mountains sucker on the rear bumper. By the way, I appreciate your input and everyone else's who is nice enough to shre their knowledge with me. Keep the comments and ideas coming. I can't thank you guys enough for the help you've provided so far.I’ll stick my nose in where it may not belong….
