It looks too good to cut up!!
According to him, it was parked about 5 years ago but it ran.....
I used to see it going up and down the mountains . It disappeared from circulation and I thought to myself that maybe the owned crashed it and never gave it another thought.
When I called after receiving the message, he said that it was his dad's . The old man passed away and he was tired of seeing and of it taking up space in the yard.
I bet no one here would let this poor man look at that hideous thing another day🤣. I will have it removed !

The company in Colombia seems legit so far. I've had great communications with the guy and he sent me pics of the parts being packaged into a wood crate. I received a FedEx tracking # . Tracked it. It has not left for Miami yet , but seems like i did not get ripped off. Keeping my fingers crossed. This will definitely bring me closer to the finish line.

I went to see it.... it is quite the "rust bucket". If you guys think the one I'm working on had shoddy work done to it, this here thing is even WORSE !!!
That thing is in horrible shape..... but it's free, right ? Here are more pics

Get your checkbook out! Free Land Cruisers are the most expensive.

In other news, my broker in Miami informed me that I received a big crate from Colombia🥳🥳.I can say so far that the man is legit. I can't say anything yet about the quality and workmanship, but first thing first... he sent it and it was fast compared to the 15 to 20 days I'll have to wait for it to get here. Counting my blessings. Life is good !

I don't even think this thing is worth parting out..... all I see everywhere is THICK bondo and nasty rust holes. I am not undertaking that kind of build again unless I can purchase a complete new cab..... I'll just take it to the shop and let it sit a few years. Maybe the bug will bite me again, but from now, I have enough projects to finish and keep me entertained for a long while. This bunker will have to wait. Maybe one of my sons will mess with it . Imessed with enough rust and aggravation for 3 lifetimes. I am finishing this project, my Camaro ,my son's 73 series and more. Enough for now.

No but there may be some money in all the parts. Little things like thermostat housings, brackets, drivetrain, control rods/cables, if gears/axles good, tcase good, steering then overall might be worth just disassembling completely, dump the scrap and stock the good parts.

Agreed, I would have gladly done so if there was some sort of demand for those parts here. 40 series are very rare here they were all over the place years (decades) ago but not many are into restoring old cars.... so, selling it by parts is probably a long shot. I'll think about all that later.

The parts I'm waiting for will take an estimated20 to 30 days to get to me. I figured I might as well get some stuff done in stead of sitting around .
So, today, I got quite a bit done. I finished setting up the fuel tank. I installed the "floatless" sending unit. I also made a fuel ⛽️ output tube out of 5/16 stainless tubing, drilled a hole in the bottom forward wall of the tank. Stuck it in about an inch and a half, making sure that it lays flat against the bottom and intothe baffled area.
I also made a fuel return port from the same material and installed it on the top side.

All I have left to do now is to make the fuel line . Since the engine does not use a fuel return line, I'll be using a corvette style filter. That will take care of returning unspent fuel to the tank.

I finally got some time to start taking what I need off that 80 series. We pulled the complete front axle off and it is indeed what I was hoping for : fitted with electric lockers ! PERFECT !!!!!🥳
As you can see, it is very dirty. I will pressure wash it thoroughly, sand blast it, prime and paint . I'll install them both when the frame is also painted and looking brand new..I'll also bend some stainless steel brake lines to replace the rusted ones currently on the axles.

While I was at the shop today, I looked at this truck and was reminded of how tall that thing sits. I started thinking about how hard it would be to change a tire in the event that i'd get a flat......the bed is not big at all and throwing this 37 ×18 inch tire and wheel would leave us passengers with nowhere to carry our stuff. I could throw it up on the roof rack, but thing is heavy and getting it up there and down would probably be complicated.

So, that free 80 series i got had a tire carrier in the back of it . i I decided to see if it would fit this build . I calculated many times and i think that with a bit of cutting here, a bit of cutting there..... some welding....it might work .
So we put the carrier on the operating cable, whipped out the power tools and cranked up the welder......

The unit itself , as you can see is too tall to fit the back of this truck. The solution will be to take off about 2" from the vertical posts .
The attachments to the body also have a bit of a concave shaped up to the rounded shape of the 80 series rear end. Those will be remade with heavy gauge sheetmetal and the corner of the truck's bed will be reinforced to prevent the weight of the spare +wheel combo from tearing up the sheet metal and ruining the paint.
Seems easy enough to accomplish. A least in my head it does🤔 .We should be able to do it today...... might even try to install those tailgate latches at the same time.

I’ll stick my nose in where it may not belong….
Would you consider going to the bumper instead of the body? You could still use the carrier tire bracket. I just have concerns about a big tire on these bodies. It will need reinforced to the other side, and I’ve seen some go to the bumper on that, and then you have different types of movement between a frame mounted latch side and a body mounted hinge side, which doesn’t seem good to me.
Also, sometimes it’s easier to start from scratch on my experience.

I’m sure you know what your doing, just wanted to share my thoughts.

I thought about what you said when I decided to use that spare tire carrier. When I read your comment this morning, I said to myself that it was probably best that I mountains sucker on the rear bumper. By the way, I appreciate your input and everyone else's who is nice enough to shre their knowledge with me. Keep the comments and ideas coming. I can't thank you guys enough for the help you've provided so far.
So, I decided to modify the carrier so it can mount onto the rear bumper. Here are some pictures
