I haven't looked at the engine but if they are using the plug-in hybrid system from the RAV4 Prime then great. It's a fantastic and responsive power plant. If it is literally anything else it'll be garbage to live with. HP and TQ are just numbers, let's check the real world performance. Turbo lag is real problem.

No substitute for a V8 unless it's some sort of PHEV or BEV.

As indicated in other threads we love our N/A hybrid Highlander. It's very smooth and incredibly fuel-efficient, plus likely very reliable too. The jury is out on the turbo 4.

I have zero intention of selling my GX470 any time soon (i.e., next 5-8+ years) as I like a simple, V8 powered vehicle that I can take in the woods. And my GX is built just the way I like it.

When it gets time to retire my GX I will review the reliability of the turbo 4 in the LC and the TTV6 in the GX550 and decide what to get at that time - or go another direction completely based on needs at that time. I am not in the potential market camp for this vehicle as I have zero intention of buying a new off-roader as I like having something old and enjoy working on it myself.

I've been waiting for a new LC like the 250. I LOVE the 70 they shared a glimpse of last night. That would have been a great base model US LC for $55K.

I have a 2024 Wrangler Willys V6 6MT on order - need to decide whether to cancel the order and get the LC or get the Willys enjoy for couple years then get LC.

The 70 is significantly more expensive than a prado. 70s are like 70k USD in Australia if you find a good deal on one

I love the old school boxyness of the LC70. The 2024 redesign keeps all the old school cool with some modern updates. Since the US LC 1958 will be built in Tahara plant, wonder if there's really much of a cost difference between the LC70 and LC250? If they simplified the 1958 to be an LC70 with a lower cost powertrain (non-hybrid) could they have hit the target price of $55k? Of course, they could keep the Aussie model at $70K with the diesel.

The 70 is built to be significantly stronger than the prado ever was. Don’t forget: the prado was first created to be the light duty 70 series. The very fact that they have to overengineer things, even for Land Cruiser standards means the 70 will never be cheaper than the prado.

If they made it a hybrid but won't let you use the battery for external power that will be a huge miss. If you can use it to power stuff like your campsite then it starts to make more sense vs picking up a TRD 4Runner for the same price.
I saw 2400 watt hours listed

Call me naive, I grew up around 1980’s Toyota Pickups and 4runners and learned, around high school age about Land Cruisers. I learned that they were the best of everything Toyota had to offer all rolled up into the best made car on the road. I was told it was more of flex, showing other manufacturers what Toyota capable of!

I believe I’ve heard the term “Flagship vehicle“ thrown around more than once.

I don’t believe anyone can honestly say this new truck is the best of everything Toyota has to offer.

For Pete’s sake, there is a Tacoma with an MSRP in excess of $70k, and then the cloth interior, 4cylinder, $55k Flagship??? Just feels like they were trying to tap into the Jeep/Bronco market and I never thought that was why Toyota was producing the Land Cruiser.

I’ll test drive it, and hope I’m surprised!

Im most upset they got rid of the tailgate!

More like $55k USD ish

They have always had cloth interiors.

It is a flagship in terms of strength and reliability, not speed or luxury. Most land cruisers around the world are very basic.

Where is the $70k Tacoma?

Disgraceful. The last LC had a V8 that was coveted and many wish frankly were still around.

Brand new LC with a Grand Hylander engine, how exciting. It will sound and feel terrible.

But all the treehuggers and Uncle Sam will be happy.

It has way more torque than the V8 in the 200 and will likely drive like a diesel because of the low end torque from the electric motor. It is also lighter than the 200 but has less horsepower. I don’t think power is an issue with this vehicle

Nobody knows how it sounds but sometimes manufacturers can pull off a good sounding I4

It's not about just numbers it's real world feel and performance. V8 has more than enough torque. I put my truck in 2nd gear start towing my boat and it feels like nothing's back there. Not to mention, the sounds and feel you get from a V8.

Feeling and sound I get but low end power, the new one beats the 200. Electric power is instant, and the electric motor will more than make up for the lack of low end from a turbo 4. It will be like power from a diesel
