I'm making an engine swap, my old engine was an 22RE and i was running 4.88 R&P set with it. Now i have in a my hands 2 sets of R&P 5.38 for my front diff (DANA 44) and 5.29 for my rear diff (Toyota 8")

Running a 5VZ-FE is better to keep my 4.88's or change for the new sets??

te difference bettwen one and the other is 1.6% the maximun acceptable is 2.0%
Howdy! I always thought that the lower gear set (bigger number) should go in the front, since the front travels a longer distance while making turns. Tire size, rig setup, and driving styles might all influence whether you should stay with the 4.88's. John

Not sure if the transfer case would bind with two diffrent gear ratio's?

Not if you keep it in 2H (or Neutral)!

It might work but I wouldn't do it. Not that I'm an expert on the subject...I'm just anal retentive that way.

Thanks, now i'm running 35's SS LTB, but i'm planning to go to SS TSL 38's
Howdy! I'm running 5.29's over 35's on my mini truck now, withe a 22re. My speedo is about 10% lower than actual speed. Cruising on the freeway means running between 3000-3500 rpm to keep up in the left lane. If your going to drive a lot of mud at WOT, I would probably stay with the 488's. The bigger engine should be able to keep them spinning. But if you are going to crawl a log of bedrock, then go with the lower gears. John
