I am having a random problem getting the 55 to start up. It has a 2003 4.7 liter toyota v8 mated to a lexus trans and landcruiser t-case. All new junk. The fuel seems to not be making it's way to the engine. I removed the lines and there was no fuel and or dripping even with tirning the motor over.
I was told that I should see some fuel either way.
I put some fresh fuel in it and still nothing. I then pulled the negative grounds from the battery and started it up. It might have been luck though cause it won't start again now. I am going to try a fresh fuel filter.

Does anyone know some advice as to what I might do to be sure fuel is traveling?

Better yet, Gumby recalls someone having this same set up in a 55. I sure would like to know who that might be so I can ask some questions of him.

Any help will save me from beating the side of the truck with a hammer!

Thanks,
Goebs

Goebs; can you get any gas from the fuel line with a bit of suction?....if you don't have suction; can you put a compressor soft rubber tip and back blow the line to the gas tank?.........you should hear it burble!.....if you get gas one way and air bubbles then you can try placing a pressure gauge and seeing how much presure the fuel pump reads when cranking; if it gives you a good reading then you might need to start think about putting in a replacement fuel pump

Gumby mentioned security feaatures to me today. I just took all the grounds off the battery, reset the ECM, and it didn't start. I then took the ground off the floor shifter and pushed on the wire loom plug at the shifter and the thing almost shot through the back of tha shop! Fuel is flowing fine now. I think there must be some security in the shifter that won't allow you to start the truck in gear. Time to find the wiring diagram for the Lexus trans. There are two or three wires still not connected to anything by the floor shifter.

I am hoping it is this simple and not fuel related. That might explain why it all of a sudden happened....

:hillbilly:don't thank I got no securty crap on my pigs:hillbilly::wrench:just one more needless piece to make you break down........likes my manual tranny...am too dumb:confused:to screw around with automatics........sides; can't push start em artermatics no how:hillbilly:......sounds like you found the problem:beer::bounce::beer:

The neutral safety switch, as in every car I've ever seen, shuts off power to the starter solenoid.

There's a black white wire going in from the ECM and a black red wire going from the NS switch to the starter relay.

Any other position except park or neutral and it won't crank.

If hooked up properly

The 55 key is being used. The thing jumped to life in drive and boy was it a suprise...
There are wires all over the shifter and three are cut coming from the floor boeard to the shifter. One is a ground I believe and is nice and clean. The others are green with a second color stripe.

I don't believe the security is as high as a stock set up, but still somewhat there. It needs tighter connections possibly in one or all of the splices. They look clean but still guessing they are the culprits.

Lou, I understand the simple approach. Up until this project, most of my crap has been simple. My TPI'd 40 was over the top for me but pretty basic. This thing is over the top for me but it has to be the coolest thing I have had to date. I just want to get it finished and on the trail. I am going to get it done before spring now. My space to work is complete and now I am back at it.

Gumby, your help with this thing is amazing. Everyone I speak with locally simplydoesn't get it....

That would be Evans 55, same set up. Last active on the Mud 1/22/2009 so he's around. PM him FJ55-100. Here's a pic of his 55

Lou,
I shot him a pm. We'll see if he is around and has time for some stupid questions. I think I found a wiring problem but not sure how to be sure. It seems to be jumping to life again now. I am going to look into the connection near the floor shifter. It is not super tight and might be a problem. All of the other wires are tight now except that connection.

Thanks for finding Evan. It's a start in the right direction now for me.
