hahaha.....

Well since this is my thread, my plan is to get ARB/4.88 3rd members from Carl and drop those in, get lift kit stuff from Christo, and put the 35s on. I got the plans from Dan for the 12mm spacers for a slight body lift, so things will be nice once I can afford all of it. Hence, the several step process to build my ultimate 100. Oh yeah, and I do plan to include Carls new UCAs for the lift. Dan is going to be installing some soon on his rig and I expect a good report :D

Here's those nice UCAs Carl engineered..... whahhaa!! man I need a better job!

Aaaaaaaaaahhhhh. Got it. Good solid work.

How much? You should figure that out and report back. Really.

It's horrible. If I go swinging on trees....NO WAIT, SORRY......drive 80-miles, 4-wheel in 4-lo for 6-hours, drive home 80-miles.....I get 9 to MAYBE 10 MPG. HORRIBLE!

ya but if you go bigger tires but then regear doesnt it equal back out?

Depends on tires size and gear change.

With 4.10 and 315's then 4.56 is super close. I wanted more crawl and power so I went 4.88

With 4.3 and 315's on my 100, 4.88 would be super close.

4.88s with 35s is what was come up with as a very good match up. That's what I am going with and is what others who have gone before are running with great success.

Hi.

1. If my 100 is TRD supercharged, do I still need to regear to 4.88 if I am using 35's?
2. Will 35 tires require changes in steering?

Sorry if you mentioned the second point before, just can't remember where exactly. Its hard to read through all the fights going on here.

Thanks

Yes you should still go to 4.88 gears, and no-one has had any steering problems with 35s on their 100. Adding the better Upper Control Arms from JTs will improve your on road steering performance however. See Spressomons thread on the new upper control arms he installed.

Well...it depends on where and how you drive your rig. For me I'd love a '03+100 with 4.88's and 35's. I do LOTS of off-road. I want the low rpm torque/power that lower gears will get you. The SC/TC won't do much at 1,500 rpm. And the SC/TC won't help you on the down hill crawl portion.

Having set my '99 up with 4.88's and 35" I'd like to drive a pre '03 100 with 5.29's and 35's...methinks that would be even better for the weight of my rig, how I use it and also the fact I pull a Horizon trailer!

OrangePips, I don't think you absolutely "need" 4.88's with your 5speed/35's but it would make a very substantial improvement. Your current 4.1 with your 5 speed has a lower first gear than 4.88's and a 4 speed. Your 5th gear would likely be underpowered but tolerable.

Now with the Fox shocks I have actually gained total front suspension travel (increased droop...exactly where it was needed most) while keeping the lift at about 3" front and a bit more in the rear.

Which fox shocks exactly do you use? I looked through fox site and couldn't find an applicable shock for my 100.

2" with remote. The adjusters had to be ordered separately then...I don't know if Fox offers the remotes with the adjusters already installed or not. They're just the standard shocks...

But the mounts are custom...they're not something that you're just going to bolt on ;).

OTOH since Fox makes stud type upper mounts for other rigs I would think they would be available in a 6.5" for front and 10-11" for rear...but you're going to have to call Fox so see what's available (or Shock Warehouse).

Not really. The bigger tires weigh much more, which takes more fuel to turn them. Also, more rolling resistance due to the bigger footprint.
