I've never seen the gate past the Coons Creek Cabin open, so I would count on going out to the 38 and then north up to 2N01.

Broom Flats (2N01) connects to Burns Canyon Road (2N02) @sdnative file shows Heartbreak Ridge (2N61Y) correctly. It's basically a 4 mile offshoot of Burns Canyon that ties back into it. It's well marked from Burns. However there are several out and back outshoots from Heartbreak Ridge that people also consider Heartbreak Ridge too.

2N01 is a fun easy and beautiful way to get to Burns Canyon from the 38. There is an old Arastra to check out near where 2N01 and 2N02 meet which is right where Heartbreak starts or ends. On Sunday I'm taking it to Burns Canyon then down to Vaughn Spring and then out to Pappy and Harriets for some lunch time BBQ. Thats been our go to Sunday plan for ending Big Bear trips for about the last 15 years. Anyone is welcome!

So, how does one actually find the camp ground? The directions sort of stop on the highway.

38 to 1N02 (34.16227, -116.78581) or just look for signs for Heart Bar Campground
Go pass Heart Bar campground.
Stay on 1N02 and follow the signs to Coon Creek Camp. There is one intersection, stay left. It's about 6 miles up the road.

This is what google maps shows....

As well here the USFS info on the Coon Creek cabin and yellow stake campsites -

Also if you didn't make the list at the group site and all the yellow posts are taken, Heart Bar Campground keeps some sites as first come first served. So thats another good option to be close to the group site.

A Campfire and Charcoal ban is now in effect as of June 23rd, 2021, at this campground. Propane campfire ring, stove and lantern are permitted in an area at least 5 feet from any flammable materials, with a shut off valve. A California Campfire Permit is required.

Hey guys just a heads up before a lot of people show up thinking there's yellow post sites and then they can hang out at the group camp, my friends tried to do that earlier this year and had three too many vehicles and six too many people and they were asked to leave by the rangers. They are very strict up there.

With yellow posts, they are open until taken so if you can leave early you would probably get one.

Hey if anyone heads up early maybe they can bring some chairs and set them at some yellow post site for us with kids who would love to get out of the house early but have to be realistic. LOL

I will do the all day run with Jeff and bring fried rice for the potluck.

I'm going to leave early on Friday morning to get up there. I'm going to take an extra tent that I have and put it on a yellow post site to try to save one for you guys. If we have the whole team doing that we probably could get all the other post yesterday for the grouping.

We will likely roll in closer to 8PM with Phulcrum following.
