3 inch exhaust elbow on CT26

I dont have any of it before it was installed. Its badly oiled up due to blown turbo.

I made it with 4" mandrel bends and 4" pipe reducing to 3" at the transfer case, and it runs in 3" to the rear. Once it passes the firewall, there is no bend greater than 45degrees.

My thinking was that 4" dump would allow it to spool up and produce good boost before there was any chance of even the slightest bit of back pressure building up. probably overkill, but seems to have worked well :hillbilly:

wow

4" thats huge:D dont get too excited!

I figured there was room for it, and no more work in doing it in 4" compared to in 3". If there is a benefit, all good, if not, no loss :D

actually it kind of makes sense, look at dirt bikes exhaust, all though definately not the same, huge chamber near the cylinder, then down to a smaller size till the outlet, and they make decent power for the displacement...

dump pipe

Hey canadian bum, did you make any progress on your dump yet

Been too busy building other things. I won't be building the dump pipe till after I rebuild the engine this fall or winter.

I just looked and yes, the whole downpipe is $294 but that's made for a Supra so you're still going to have to cut it. I don't know how the exhaust side is clocked on a 7M so it probably won't be angled the way you want it anyway.

I was suggesting that if somebody wants only the flange they can get one from him for $30. If I was going to make my own dump pipe I'd start with that flange, keep it HUGE for as long as possible, and run it by the tcase like mudgudgeon did.

keep it local

I like it Adam, nice find... thats a good way to go, If Canadian Bum doesnt do it... thats still in Canada.

Canadian Bum, no worries, I can wait let me know

I made one myself for the 1KZ-t using stainless 12mm plate (½") hole saws, saw, file, drills etc, attached a 4" pipe because I heard that the rule of thumb is that the first ½ meter downpipe should have the same volume as the engine (gasser stuff, I know), made a semidivorces wastegate and then down in to a 3".

All AISI 316 stainless, al home made, not too difficult, even with minimal TIG experience.

Just to say that it can be done, even by an amateur like me :)

You can see my efforts here, pics at post 106:

I know it goes on straight, it's for a very strange application, however I'm sure I could have done it in a bend too.

Sorry guys been too busy SASing my Tacoma. I am hoping to get going on my cruisers again soon which will be this. However I decided to dump the CT26 in favor of a different turbo.
