After several months looking at different exhaust models, I went to the muffler shop and had them fabricate a 3-inch system for me, fitted with an Aeroturbine 3030XL muffler, and with the pipe exiting to the side.
The sound is a nice growl under light acceleration, but gets pretty loud when you floor it. With the windows up it is very tolerable. At idle it's almost the same as with the original muffler, but with a deeper tone. Another nice touch is the spooling sound of the turbo.
Acceleration is definitely stronger, though I have no way of measuring this. There are many hills where I live so I will report soon on how the car behaves going up the hill, and also on straight highways.
As the pictures show, the muffler shop bended the pipe a little more than I would have wanted. I wonder how this affects the overall performance. Comments welcome.

Tapage! you were my inspiration man! I don't know how many times I've watched your youtube videos. ;-)

What do you think of this bending and crimping in the last picture?

nice, you may have just changed my mind as to the route I am going to take. Might just do the short out the side run and avoid the whole over the axle/frame thing.

I cant figure out a reason why anyone would want to take it throught the standard route over the axle. It's alot easier to just make it exit trough side somewhere near the rear wheels...

thanks .. appreciate the compliment. and it looks good ..

It gets really loud when you floor it. Otherwise the noise level is quite acceptable.

I didn't even look at the 3535XL. Several people on the forum have written good reviews about the 3030XL so that was my main reference. Can't wait to see what Aero tells you about "diesel muffler" vs. "gas muffler"

I see you guys all talking about the 3030XL and the 3535XL...the XL means that it has a built in resonator. My question is how much difference would it sound if you just had the 3535 or 3030? I know a lot of ppl like to hear the whine of the turbo from the pipe but would you also hear it from the XL model as well?

Probably makes a difference with in cab resonance. Like the old Flowmaster and the new flowmaster series 3- everything about the same, just less in cab groan.

my magnaflow has almost no groan but a nice honk when you stomp on it. Fully satisfied.

Hey 80cruiserfan, Tapage, or other with a similar setup, I was wondering what this set up does for SMOG fumes in the cab with the windows down in like traffic or off road? I like the idea of a easier shorter set up that I can do at home with a bender and a welder, But not at the expense of passengers and i loosing brain cells due to carbon monixed.

I have an FJ80 so it would be on the drivers side but figure if the passenger windows are down and arent getting smog out then it will be the same on the drivers side.

Sorry for attempting to bring this back from the grave...

I didn't experience any of the above .. gotta be honest almost always I'm in heavy traffic I'm AC on .. but never has been an issue for me inside the vehicle ..

Thanks!! I think I might go for it! I found a NEW flow master 50 for 75 that I think should fit where ther cat was and then I’ll dump it out the side!
