Still living in the good old days :) LV Ha Ha Ha!!!

That's funny :) I've just typed it so many times it's become a habit now :D

I won't let it happen again......;)

Matt

Got a few hours in on the lpb Saturday and Sunday. Wife had me doing a lot, but managed to sneak in about 4 hours total over 2 days.

Saturday evening I spent a good couple hours degreasing and presure washing the motor. I lifted the motor up with the tractor and made sure I got underneath also. Took about 6 to 7 times degreasing and presure washing, but got most everything off.

Sunday I decided to make a stand for it. Figured I was going to be pulling the oil pan anyway for blasting, along with the air cleaner, valve cover and other misc. parts. And it might be a little bit before I round up a frame.....so I ran to the store and picked up 4 more used lawn mower tires we had and some scrap New Holland round bailer tubing we had laying out back. Took a little over an hour and it is somewhat crude, but fabbed up a stand for it. Also used the end of one of the bailer tubes and made it so I could turn it with my trailer dolly.......my neighbor is demonstrating how that works. ;)

I then poured out the remaining silica sand in my blaster and poured in the sodium bi-carbonate. For those of you that just tuned in...I am using sodium bi-carbonate because I am not taking apart the motor and do not feel comfortable spraying silica sand around a perfectly good motor. I still plan on pulling the above mentioned parts, but wanted to blast the block, tranny and T-case down to bare metal and shoot some fresh paint. And that is exactly what I did.......Took about 2 bags of sodium, you can't see it in the pics, but it did a pretty nice job. Cleaned any paint and surface rust off the block and tranny and clean the T-case up real nice. I then did a basic mask job and shot some black paint. Nothing fancy, just wanted it black and to look nice which I think it does.

I think it will look a lot better when i get that pan and other stuff off, blasted and into hi-gloss paint. At least now I can move it around if I need to and pull the pan and other stuff with ease. Just no reason to take apart an absolutely perfectly good running 2F :)

So I can't believe you drove all the way to BC for a 45 and didn't even bring home a diesel!

How are you able to register/drive it already? Old enough to fly through importation rules? Small-town atmosphere? (ala LV w/ no insurance registration etc.? :D)

I might have missed it, but how many miles are on it?

So what's your plan? Basically stock? Keep everything that's there (and it looks like you scored everything you dirtbag lol) and just do your magic on it?

And I thought side vents were only a post-77 thing, am I wrong on this?

Sorry for so many questions, but I have nothing to contribute and wanted an excuse to reply to this thread: it's 5 stars BTW because it's buckroseau's! You are a master, looking forward to keeping up with this one too!

put a little seat on that baby and you've got the makings of a tractor

A diesel would have been the holy grail, but not required for me to own a lpb :D

25 years or older, no big deal. Brought vehicles out of Canada before....I think brokers and people who have never done it like to hype the difficulty of it or make up horror stories. Pretty much like buying a vehicle in the U.S., just a couple extra papers to fill out at the border.

150,000......Kilometers.

Pretty much stock, except for the steering wheel. I would love to keep it totally stock, but because of my height the size of the steering wheel and proximity to the dash I need to make some mods. I was planning on doing a saginaw power steering install, but after driving it for a week the thing drives great. The entire week I drove it to work, it started and ran absolutely perfect and drove straight and true down the highway at 60 mph. So, stock steering stays. And yes, everything is there....just needs a little love and it will be better than new!

Not sure on the vents? I know this one is totally stock.

Hopefully if I get some time to giver hell I will be hauling ass on this one. If I round up that frame, I'm 50% there already after that. The cab is actually going to be a pretty easy fix, it really isn't that bad? I have new fenders......bib, side aprons and hood are rust free and straight...so those are easy. If I get a decent frame and box, home free ;p Kinda hoping I could be 100% done with this one by spring if possible??

Thanks, Matt

Matt, I was wondering why you blasted and painted the axles without disassembling them and rebuilding? Was it just to get them degreased and de-rusted prior to working on them?? Seems like it would be worth the effort to replace the bearings, seals, gaskets, brakes, and repack the knuckles since you're taking the time for a resto. Just curious.

Resto? No one said anything about a resto? :D Good question though;)

If you look carefully I didn't do it on the lv either on those 79 axles. Blasted them down, I did end up replacing the pinion seals and rebuilt the front knuckles and wheel bearings (after I blasted and painted them), but didn't pull them all the way down.

I guess it's kinda like the motor.....if it ain't broke, don't fix it? Might be a cop out, but if they do start leaking I will pull them down instantly and take care of it. But, for the week I drove it....everything worked perfect, I see no need at this time to tear them down.

Thanks, Matt

Plus there were never any bj45's or hj45's sold in canada. They were all fj's cept for the odd ball here or there. ;)

Matt-

can not believe where this has gone since I saw it 3 weeks ago.... the 40 engine is in pieces, as I have pulled the head to figure out the oiling problem... but you have way more time in this, I really enjoyed reading your posts.... you are the man!!! I will be checking your progress and keeping you informed on the 40.... thanks again!!!

that sounds awfully familiar...

I have never seen a 45pu frame up here that didn't look like that.
Matt, I was glad to see that 45 sell to someone that could repair it.:D
Sorry the only extra 45 frame is from a LV.
Rob

Matt, do you know if an LV frame will work? If so, I have 3 of them... I will be willing to part with one frame in about 3 weeks when I get back from a time out with my family.

Great progress! I actually offered a guy a trade on one of these with the 2h engine in it. The 40th was offered and the guy refused, but said if his wife had been around she would have made him.

Mike,

No, lv frame isn't the same, but thanks for the offer.

Still have a couple solid leads and I honestly believe one of them is going to pan out. I'm hoping to have one here within a month or 3......

Rumor has it Aqualu is/has made a 45 frame, but no pics or confirmation yet.

Thanks, Matt
