Hello.
First time posting here in this section. I am looking at a 1986 2wd camper with the EFI in it and an automatic tranny, how much work would be involved to make it a 4x4.

Thanks in advance
James

Check the FAQ thread here, I think there's a couple 2wd-4wd conversions in there. It's a bit involved, but not too bad if you are a competent fabricator. Aside from the usual solid axle swap parts, you're going to have to change transmissions as well. Money wise, probably 1-2k in parts, and maybe the same in labor if you payed someone to do it... I think the 2wd frames are a little weaker as well, but the camper could be an exception...

sas kit cost my buddy about 3000 after even lifting the rear. not including tires

if you did it, it would be awesome. i always wanted to. but those mohos wont fit on the lift in my shop.

You might consider starting with a rear locker. It won't give you any additional clearance but it will certainly help get you a lot of places that an open diff won't. Besides, if you still want to go 4WD then you really haven't lost anything as you would probably want at least a rear locker even with 4WD.

Just a thought.

THAT WOULD BE AWSOME!! A SAS camper, you have to post pics of the camper and then let us know how the build goes, not hard at all, the only thing more involved then a regular old SAS is swapping out the tranny with a 5speed and tcase.
