So the previous owner or one of them on my 2H engine had replaced the short heater hose at the front of the engine (which i believe is the coolant return from the heat system) with a regular piece of hose. However this hose must curve in a short distance and always had a partial kink in it that kept bugging me. I have noticed this problem on multiple other 2H's in person and in pics.

Forgot to take a pic while it was still on the engine but you can still sorta see the kink.

Anyway, in the process of trying to rig up hoses for my rear heat and vintage air setup on my 40 I stole all the heater hoses with pre-made bends in them off one of my parts 4runners.
In the end, one of them ended up being the exact bend for this 2H hose! Bonus.
It is such an exact fit it was almost like it was made for it.

....no more kink! So if anybody is looking for an easy cheap fix to the half kinked hose up front, I found this hose on a 1991 4runner with a 22re engine. It is about 10" long with the 90-ish degree bend closer to one end. Should be easy to pick it out amongst the others if you are at a wrecker or something.

(I tried to look up the part number but had trouble distinguishing which hose is which on the diagrams)

I know its not an elaborate post but I am a fan of when s*** just works out nicely by dumb luck for once. Ha!

Hello, I know that this is an old post, but maybe you can answer some questions for me....or take some photos? I have a 1984 HJ60 I just drove up from Panama. The heater was bypassed due to the lack o f need for it in the tropics. I live in Montana (I need heat). I'm trying to hook it up again. I have procured the long metal tube for on top of the block; I have a hose like the one in your video that should work for the front part of the system. What I can't figure out is how the rest of the routing of hoses goes to get to the firewall valve etc. Can you take some photos of the routing??? Please???

This is my '87 HJ60. My rear heater has been bypassed, so these may not work that well for you. And here are the excerpts from the manual for the HJ60 specifically.

Here is another random HJ60 engine bay I pulled from somewhere online. This looks like more factory routing.

That is fantastic photography! Thanks a ton. So, basically....it looks like the hose coming from the heater core comes through the firewall, into the bottom of the valve....then hose comes out of the other side of the valve and goes into that tower that goes into the head. It's 12 below zero F in Bozeman right now, so it'll be a bit before I look at Sherman up close to compare....but this is a huge help! Thanks!

had no idea what my hj has, but looks original:

And this is from a hj that had 50k only, saved it for questions like this:

Hate the blurry pictures and this thing was expensive... hope it helps

Awesome, thanks. Does anyone know if those tower looking things that come off the head are one way valves or just basically elbows?

They're just elbows.

I live in a hot part of Australia and never need the heater for the most part but last week I replaced the heater hoses on my 2H engine and was shocked to see the corrosion on all of the pipes. I have a front heater hose outlet to replace the old one but not the top ones, they seem pretty hard to come by and that still leaves all the other associated pipes to deal with as well.

My question is this; Can I simply block all the water outlets to the heater hoses without affecting the cooling of the engine?
My thinking is that this would eliminate a potential problem of blown heater hoses when they're not really used here anyhow.

My second question is: If I can block the heater outlets does anybody know the thread of the top outlet?
I have well equipped machine shop so I think I can likely make something to suit but I have no experience in pipe threads if this is what they are and I'm afraid to remove things just to look and see in case I can't get them back on again and have them work.

I measured the front outlet and it's 14tpi but I would think it's a pipe thread of some kind?

thanks.
