Hello All--looking for sources for rebuilt or new or rebuild kits for my 24V alternator/Vacuum pump. I prefer a higher amp than the stock 50 amp (?). I've tried many things so far and have not gotten any feedback and don't want to chance a used one. Prefer a fresh one and put mine in the 'spare' for emergencies.
Thanks!!

You should be able to get the alternator rebuilt locally to the specs you want (within reason). If you want/need the vacuum pump on it rebuilt/new, I think it is going to cost you a fair bit of money. 4Wheelauto might be a good source. Personally, I go with a good used unit. You can call G&S, EBI, or Radd Cruisers for the vacuum pump here in BC.

24V vacuum pump

Thanks John,
I had considered the alt rebuild locally but hadn't found a source for the vacuum pump. I talked with 4wheel and they didn't have anything on hand and e-mailed G & S 2x and didn't here back in the past couple of weeks.

Do you have the contact information (web or phone) for those 2 other companies you noted?

Thanks again!

PM sent with contact info. For EBI and Radd Cruisers, i recommend phoning.

Greg from G&S was lurking and posting today. Sheldon is also usually around. Maybe shoot one of them a PM. Its a side business for them but they know their stuff when it comes to Cruisers.

I've got a rebuilt alternator (has about 8,000 miles on it) with good pump. I'm also driving to Portland very soon. As was mentioned however these units are not cheap. Send me a PM if you are interested.

David

I have a couple New in box vacuum pumps to suit a 1989 BJ75. Your 2H should be the same. I'll look up the PNs when I get home. I think Mr T wants a G note for them but I'll sell them for $100 a piece.

PM'ed you,

SOR was able to order the internal vanes and seals from down under. I'll let you know how it works when they come in.

New to LC/MUD--SOR--is that a vendor or parts supplier or repair shop?
Did they get these for you and you are installing on your rig? I tried several AUS sites and couldn't come up with any--be nice to find a solution. I hear the VAC pumps go and go longer than the alt--BUT, I don't want to be broken down somewhere in town or the mountains with no parts around--so, smarter to deal with this now.

Look forward to your report about the parts, rebuild effort (photos maybe?) and how it runs!!
Thanks,

SOR is Specter Off Road in southern Cal. They have a lot of diesel parts.

American Pyscho is correct, the 24V are only 25 amp or so.

You might also try Nathan Unger at ASI Rebuilders in Abbotsford, BC (604)864-2198. A lot of the canadian guys here speak highly of his rebuilds. I got lucky just had to replace the brushes in my 12V alternator.

24V

Thanks Tony and TKORADE! I appreciate everyones help, the SOR and CDN contacts as I would like to find solutions before a 'crisis'. New to MUD (been in the shadows for about a year studying, learning) and got this HJ60 a month ago, so everyone's help and support is really appreciated.

The rig is great overall, just need to update the interior and get some spare parts for the long term. AXT Turbo kit just got here, so getting pumped about extra performance in a few weeks:wrench::):).

Again, my THANK YOU to all for your feedback--MUD is a pretty amazing support forum--too bad so spread out--would be nice to have a long weekend MUD party somewhere!

What part of Oregon? There are a few guys in Cascade Cruisers (Portland) with a bit of diesel knowledge that may help. The guys I know from the group are good people.

Tony

Thanks Tony--Just south of Oregon City, so near Portland. If they are on MUD would appreciate their input and tips--looking for the shortest/smartest/least expensive solutions to quality solutions and repairs.

Rig is really in great shape actually--just finished some suspension upgrades and maintenance, turbo/intercooler is soon (AXT kit is pretty nice) and then onto the interior. Other tasks along the way. I've worked on diesels before and drive a diesel for work p/u--but need tips on LC's, 24V tips and other details to shorten the learning curve.

The alt/vac unit is working great, but know I need a solution for down the road.

Yes--local feedback on 2H's would be nice!
Thanks Tony!

2H vac pump rebuild kit

LCD60.

I live up in Canada (most probably where your car came from) and you can still order what you need to rebuild your vac pump yourself directly from the local Toyota dealer up here.

I had my alt rebuilt by a local shop and was going to rebuild the vac pump as well but I looked in the FSM and got the measurements of the inner moving parts they call blades. I then opened my vac pump and took some measurements and found mine were still well within specs limits, actually same as new. As a reference, my 2H has 240,000kms on it. So I ended up not rebuilding the pump but, that's when I found out you could still get the parts from the dealer.

You can find the P/N you need on www.toyodiy.com

Another place that might carry what you need is www.cruiserparts.net I strongly suggest you call and not email them.

Hope this helps.

Marc

Thanks Marc--I'm into this just a couple of months so collecting information, links and sources for parts and help. Sure glad to hear not much wear on the unit after that many miles.
Yes, the HJ is from Canada, has 310,000 KM's but feel's less on engine/tranny since so tight and clean burning and smooth.

Any Toyota dealer in Canada or just specific larger dealers?
Thanks again!

I just had my 24v alt rebuilt at United Battery on Columbia in Portland a couple weeks ago. $250 with a 4 year warranty. It looks brand new and works great. I took it in on Friday and they had it done Monday morning - and they had to source the parts since it was a "Canadian spec" rig. The vacuum pump was fine, so I didn't mess with that. Call 'em up and see what they can do for you. At least then you don't have to pay shipping.

Good luck!

This is my experience too.

Unless your vacuum pump has been run without oil, the only thing needing replacing is the O-ring that seals the body-halves together. (And that is only because you've gone and broken the body apart - otherwise you wouldn't even need to replace that.)

The carbon blades don't seem to wear at all!

The pumps usually outlast the alternators easily. Some alternators experience failure and wreck the shaft. The auto electric shops here do not want to rebuild these alternators because of the diode problems they have and the replacements alternators are usually 80 amp [12volt].Replacing the diodes seems to be a game of chance and not that successful with constant early failure. A while ago Roodogs were selling a 24volt alternator and Ashdown Ingrams also had 24volt alternators when I bought my 80 amp Alternator with new pump for just under $300.00 kangaroo dollars.
