I have the Slee heavy lift on my truck with old style OME Nitrocharged shocks. The more I research going from 285/65/16 to 275/70/18, I am hearing that the tire may be too tall and I may need to add spacers to clear the A-arm and may need to trim the rear fender. I was also told that I may get into some other issues.
I was kind of surprised to hear this since the tires are only 33.6" and 11" wide. Tall and skinny. I need some help in this area because I don't want to invest $1,500 in tires only to turn around to do another $500+ worth of work. This is my everyday driver.

I have that exact same tire size, and ran it before I had any lift. Zero issues, ever.

Also saw at least 2 other completely stock trucks at 100s in the Hills with zero lift and that tire size, no issues.

Don't see how it will be a problem. 275/70-18 Duratracs here. Stock AHC, even has plenty room in low mode.

How about 295/70/18? I think the tire in that size is 34.3" and 11.8" wide.

See above. Works fine, no prob. Plenty of clearance to OE UCA, need to trim plastic at back of well slightly if desired (wont damage tire if you don't).

Thanks. I misread your first reply. All the numbers begin to look the same after 5,000 hours of research.LOL!!!! What tires are you running?

PM replied to. They're Nitto Terra Grapplers. Great all-around tires. Had I known, however, that it would become a dedicated trail rig I would have gone with a MT tread. Although they're dead quiet on the highway and I have never hydroplaned, a worthy note for Portland.

i have a similar decision to make. I just got made redundant but with good job prospects and i have 6 18x9 alloys in my spare room. I bought the 2200 pound (998 kg) rated wheels before i researched that so they wont be going on any long Oz Outback tours, but will be fine for the logging tracks i regularly do on the weekends, my annual trip down to the beach and for my daily drive.
The 16" steelies will go back on if ever i do the heavily corrugated outback stuff.

So i'm looking at 4ply MT ATZs 305x60Rx18 which is 33x12.5 and i'm still stock, suspension wise. I prefer the extra width of the 305s. Thoughts?

I also ran 275/70/18 Tires before putting on the OME lift.

No issues whatsoever.

BBQ Boy, I just swapped my wheels for 17" and went with 285/70R17 and ran into issues. I have the OME 2.5" lift. The reason for the issue was the backspacing/offset of the new wheels. There are very few options out there that have the correct backspacing. I'm working on exchanging the wheels I bought for something with a larger backspace. Currently, the tires are rubbing significantly on the front two tires on the back part of the fender.

I have had it under full articulation and no problems here, granted it was in low range and H mode.

I was referring to you saying it has room in Low mode, which I'm sure there is clearance, but no room for any kind of flex. Hence my standstill comment.

Just to play devil's advocate, if a tire will stuff to the bump stop in H why would it not stuff exactly the same to the bumpstop in L? Springs are just precompressed in L. Geometry isn't any different. Not sure if the tire in question will fully stuff to the bumpstop even in H, but if it does I can't see where starting out in L will make much difference...

I have the Nitto Terra's also in a 295/70-18. As Oregon mentioned above.

For the price they are HARD to beat for a good AT. I have thoroughly enjoyed mine for the last 20K or so. Mine with a OME heavy lift and inner fenders trimmed still rub pretty good when heavy wheeling, Nothing major though.

With that said my next tires will be the KM2 285/75/18's. There are stupid expensive but I really want a MT for my next tire. If I was going with another AT id get the Nitto's again all day long..

Good luck with your decision

That's a great size, but BFG's website doesn't show them in a 285/75R18. Have you thought about going with the GY MTR Kevlars?
