255/85 look great. Since I haven't got fender flares, the 12.50's are out--- I spend a LOT of time in mud as many of our streets are unpaved and it rains a few months out of the year. Mud looks fun and all when you've been out wheelin, but when you get mud all over yourself every time you accidentally touch the rocker panel with your pants, it isn't very fun :(

That, and local laws prohibit tires that exceed the fenders. They'll ignore a 1/2" or so, but not 2 or more inches.

How much do split rims cost? And how much trouble is it for us US kids to get tires mounted on them?

I was thinking the non US chrome 60 series 16 inchers but they are expensive boogers!

Splits are about $40 each from Specter, but then you have to pay a $10/box charge, and then you still need to buy tubes and liners. Some of his rims were pretty hammered though. You can easily mount them yourself if you know how, but getting them balanced is another issue. The local shop that would do it (most won't because their insurance carriers won't allow them to) wanted an extra $20 per tire to balance them.

I bought some from Marv last time I was down there (and saved on $$$ shipping) and had some tubes already. Liners were about $10 each IIRC, and I'm going to get a set of Centramic balancers to balance them instead of paying someone else. You can also use the old school bubble balancers that JCWhitney sells.

I also made a set of Cruiser ready rims out of Chevy rims that work really great, and that was just a matter of reversing the centers and re-welding them to the rims (sounds less time intensive than it actually is).

My rims are stockton wheel 22 series. They have a couple other really cool rims to choose from that would all fit cruisers. They took three months to get but if you call them ask for Rob and tell him you talked to Casey from Oregon (me). At least he tried to make up for the long lead time with free lug nuts. Quality is A+ though. www.stocktonwheel.com

Stockton Wheel 22 Series
16x8
3.5" offset

If you want the tire to sit really skinny you should go for a narrower wheel (16x6.5 is the narrowest the 255/85 r16 will fit according to bfgoodrich) but the 3.5" offset is perfect.

caserique

thanks
do you mean 3.5" backspace? the way i understand the lingo, a 3.5" offset would put the monting surface 0.5" in from the back lip of the rim on an 8" wide wheel, whereas a 3.5" backspace would put the surface 3.5" back from the back lip, 0.5" off the centerline.

i like them. i've looked at stockton wheel for other projects but never actually gotten past their website. might have to investigate more.

What suspension where you running with these tires? Any clearance issues?

Complete Belton 2.5" system.

I had slight rubbing under full compression in the front bottom of the wheel well. Just enough to rub the paint off but not to do any damage.

My brothers run the same set ups on their BJ60 and HJ60. Only mine rubbed on the HJ61

I'm not sure exactly how the backspacing is measured but I had read on a post somewhere that 3.5 was the right backspace. In the end I just told the guy at stockton wheel 3.5" and prayed they'd be right when they showed up! Everything was perfect. Just don't expect them to get to your house in 4 weeks.

Hey sandcruiser, what body styles are currently available in Central America. I was in Honduras a few years back and everyone was rolling in rigs like yours. I'd be willing to fly to Central or South America and drive one back if I could find the pickup style (hj75?)

15" 8" Rims (Your choice is almost endless)

My selection was for 32X11.5

No rubbing with std suspension and same rolling diameter as the 7.5R16

Go the Cooper STT For a good allrounder or BFG AT or Muddies and you wont go back

We've got 75s and 78s. Prices are pretty high. New turbo diesel 78 p/u is about 40K us dollars.

used are just plain tough to find as people hold onto good trucks here. best way to get one is apparently to just walk up to people and ask if they want to sell.

wouldn't it be a nightmare to import - if you could find one or buy new? I'd love to get one, but imagine it'd be a PITA.
