Sheez ppl, LC is a LINE of vehicles. Ok, we were ‘spoiled’ with the only the flagship for decades. Now its gone and we have the Prado. (Insert terrified face)

Im thrilled to have the 250 here, would be great to have the 300 to accompany but we dont so is what it is.

Even Toyoda considering it much more than just a line of vehicles and the label was never meant to be slapped onto whatever the marketing team wanted. The LC name until now always meant something. Something more.....

Nice review and I appreciate your opinions, but-I am sincerely hoping that the 250 is not like MY old FJ with its Camaro like visibility and assinine suicide rear doors, nor MY 80 series with 13 mpg and rust galore within 8 years, nor even my 100 series luxosuv with plush leather and flip down DVD payers on the back of the front seats. I hope it will be a solid, reliable, comfortable and capable vehicle worthy of the Land Cruiser name entrusted to it by Toyota. My bet is it will be.

What I’ve learned over the last couple months is everyone has their own opinion about what is and isn’t a Land Cruiser and guess what? They are all right, yet wrong at the same time. 40’s, 55’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s 100’s, 200’s, 300’s? All Land Cruisers. 120’s 150’s, 250’s? Also Land Cruisers.
Well, if the Tundra was discontinued and they renamed the Tacoma would it really be a Tundra? There are a lot of things in the current day that are being labeled something they aren't because it's beneficial. There is a bloodline to follow and the 250 is a cousin, not a descendant.

This isn't a knock on the 250. My 200 is getting long in the tooth and high on the candidate list is the 250 or 550. But it's not the continuation of the Land Cruiser, regardless of what badge they chose to affix to the rear hatch.

By this same logic, my 80 and your 200 are not real Land Cruisers either as they were part of the wagon evolution that spun off, the same as the light duty 70 series became the Prado tree. That makes the 70 series the only true Land Cruiser descendant. As far as I'm concerned it's still a Land Cruiser, just with a different mission than the wagons or the 70 series.

They are all Land Cruisers and shown in the ‘Land Cruiser’ family for decades. ‘Land Cruiser’ is the family of robust trucks and SUVs. The ‘Series’ is the descriptor of the sub variants.

200 Series is a variant as is 70 Series and 300 Series and 150 Series Prado and 250 Series Prado.

The above link web page is from 2019. Not sure where the ‘Prado isn’t a Land Cruiser’ continues to come from as Toyota has been and continues to be consistent.

Are some owners really that about resale? If someone has a circa 1984/1985 Toyota image (40 years ago people) showing the 200 is the only ‘real’ Land Cruiser I’d love to see it and understand how to get a time machine to go back in time and buy Amazon, NVIDIA,Microsoft and Apple stock.

That’s all I was trying to say. Every vehicle on that tree has its own unique strengths and weaknesses along with its own fan base.

If you look at the tree and see where they all derived from you can say anything from 1967 onward is or is not a “real” Land Cruiser.

I like my 200, I think the 250 is cool. I look forward to driving one soon and if after that I don’t care for it that doesn’t mean it’s not a Land Cruiser.

Why would it be so great to have the LC300? We would have to assume that it would only be offered here in the top spec / luxury trim - as has been the case for the last 25 years with the 200 and 100. And, if you really, really wanted one, isn't the LX600 close enough?

It would be with a different exterior and interior. Maybe get rid of the height adjustment and add E-KDSS. :p

I think some of the folks here would prefer a Land Cruiser evolution tree to resemble a bamboo shoot....

Remember folks - everything changes with time.
Is the old Landcruiser like the new one? Of course not.
Are we like our ancestors? Of course not.

If Australopithecus were alive today, he’d say that homo sapiens aren’t real humans…
